The picture is showing the pass laws that happened in South Africa. Pass laws kept blacks away from freedom, which was there dream.

This is a picture of Sophiatown, a giant black township that was in Johannesburg. Sophiatown got bigger and bigger and that was a threat for
the whites. So, Sophiatown was destroyed.

A mass amount of black population starved because the Apartheid laws kept them away from earning a lot of money.

Often the black suffered from cruel punishments from the whites. There was a law called Criminal Sentence Law which actually allowed whipping for
criminals.

A boy named Hector Pieterson was shot by the white police while doing a peaceful protest. This image provoked the whole world and told the tragedy
of blacks in South Africa

This is a photo is Dr Malan, prime minister of South Africa. He was influenced when he saw the black and white playing together. He thought
that different races should be separated so he made Apartheid.

Nelson Mandela was elected president of South Africa in December 1993, ending the white rule and Apartheid that lasted over 300 years.

This is the South African flag. The red stands for blood, the blue means skies, green for lands, the black for the black people, the white for white
people, and finally the gold for natural resources

Since the blacks had to live in townships, the blacks usually walked or traveled long distances for work. So they usually lived apart from the family
and worked in the city.

The blacks suffered from a lot of work. The blacks had to work very hard to earn the money. Still the white owners paid the blacks very little, just
enough for the to live.

The only resistance the blacks could do was going on strike. The people that attended the strike varied form children to adults. Because of this strike, a
lot of people died caused by the shooting of the police.
