“MobileGeddon,” asSearchEngineLand.comcalls it, is coming onApril 21st, 2015.

On that day, a Googlemobile algorithmupdate influencing thedisplay of organicresults on mobiledevices will begin totake effect.

Web sites failing toperform well onmobile devices will beharder to find onthese devices. Somemight effectivelydisappear from smallscreens entirely.

While Google has acknowledgedthat the impact of the 4/21/15changes will be “significant,” it’s notyet clear what the impact will be inevery business vertical.

To gauge the possibleeffect of Google’s bigmobile algorithmchange on PR firms inthe U.S.A., Didit analyzed96 sites belonging to PRagencies appearing onOdwyerPR.com’s 2015rankings list of largeagencies.

We found that

of the 96 PR firms (55 intotal) surveyed are fully“mobile-friendly”

according to Google’sdefinition.

57.3%

That leaves

42.7%of major U.S. PR firms unpreparedfor the oncoming algorithm.

So what are theseagencies doing wrong?

We've compiled a list ofthe 6 most common

errors.

1. Links spaced too closely togetherto be easily clicked on mobiledevices. 2. Content wider than screen.

3. Mobile viewports not being setcorrectly.

4. Text being set at a point size too small to read on mobiledevices.5. Blocking of resources necessaryfor the Googlebot to correctlyparse the resources referenced bythe web page.

6. Incompatible plug-ins.
