Being an entrepreneur is associated with starting a business, but this is a very loose application of a term that has a much more significant meaning. The term entrepreneur originated in French economics as early as the 17th and 18th centuries. It means someone who undertakes a significant project or activity. The French economist who giving the term this particular meaning is Jean Baptiste Say. Writing around the 19th century, Say put it this way, the entrepreneur shifts economic resources out of an area of lower and into an area of higher productivity and greater yield. Entrepreneurs create value.
Jean-Baptiste Say
1767 - 1832Dees, J. Gregory. "The meaning of social entrepreneurship." (1998).
Joseph Schumpeter
1883 – 1950
นกรอสราง
In the 20th century, the economist most closely associated with the term was Joseph Schumpeter. He described entrepreneurs as the innovators who drive the creative‐destruction process of capitalism. In his words, the function of entrepreneur is to reform or revolutionize the pattern of production. Schumpeter’s entrepreneur are the change agents in the economy. By serving new market or creating new ways of doing things, they move the economy forward.
Dees, J. Gregory. "The meaning of social entrepreneurship." (1998).
Peter Drucker
1909 – 2005
นกหาโอกาส
Peter Drucker starts by amplify Say to focus on opportunity. Drucker does not require entrepreneurs to cause change, but see them as exploiting the opportunities that change creates. He says that entrepreneur always searches for change, respond to it, and exploits it as an opportunity. For Drucker, starting a business is neither necessary nor sufficient for entrepreneurship. Not every new organization would be entrepreneurial. Drucker also makes it clear that entrepreneurship does not require a profit motive.
Dees, J. Gregory. "The meaning of social entrepreneurship." (1998).
Howard H. STevenson
1941 - Present
Howard Stevenson, a leading theorist of entrepreneurship at Harvard Business School, added an element of resourcefulness to the opportunity‐oriented definition based on research he conducted. He suggests defining the heart of entrepreneurial management as the pursuit of opportunity without regard to resources currently controlled. He found that entrepreneurs not only see and pursue opportunities that elude administrative managers; entrepreneurs do not allow their own initial resource endowments to limit their options. To borrow a metaphor from Elizabeth Barrett Browning, their reach exceeds their grasp. Entrepreneurs mobilize the resources of others to achieve their entrepreneurial objectives.
Dees, J. Gregory. "The meaning of social entrepreneurship." (1998).

There were six men of Hindustan, to learning much inclined, Who went to see an elephant, though all of them were blind, That each by observation might satisfy his mind.
The first approached the elephant, and happening to fall Against his broad and sturdy side, at once began to bawl, "This mystery of an elephant is very like a wall."
The second, feeling of the tusk, cried, "Ho, what have we here, So very round and smooth and sharp? To me 'tis mighty clear, This wonder of an elephant is very like a spear."
The third approached the elephant, and happening to take The squirming trunk within his hands, thus boldly up and spake, "I see," quoth he, "the elephant is very like a snake."
The fourth reached out an eager hand, and felt above the knee, "What this most wondrous beast is like is very plain" said he, "'Tis clear enough the elephant is very like a tree."
The fifth who chanced to touch the ear said, "E'en the blindest man Can tell what this resembles most; deny the fact who can; This marvel of an elephant is very like a fan."
The sixth no sooner had begun about the beast to grope, Than seizing on the swinging tail that fell within his scope; "I see," said he, "the elephant is very like a rope."
So six blind men of Hindustan disputed loud and long, Each in his own opinion exceeding stiff and strong; Though each was partly in the right, they all were in the wrong!

Story of Six Blind Men and an Elephant
A problem solving language used to allow people to understand their social system and
improve itTraditional analysis
separates the individual pieces of what is being
studiedSystem thinking focuses on how the thing being studied interacts with
the other constituents of the system
We pay too little attention to history. We are too fascinated by the events they generate.
We are not too skilled in understanding the nature of relationships as the world is full of nonlinearities.
Beware of clouds! They are prime sources of system surprises.
We get attached to the boundaries our minds happen to be accustomed to, often these boundaries are too large or too narrow.
Our minds like to think of single causes neatly producing single effects
We don’t recognize which factor is limiting. Growth depletes or enhances limits and therefore changes what is limiting.
We rarely see the full range of possibilities before us. We are subject to bounded rationality i.e. we make reasonable decisions based on the information we have.
Peter Senge
1947 - Present
Well, the term systems thinking is really a mixed bag and I use it very very cautiously. First, both words are problematic, but the word system is the most problematic. Because if you say the word system, the picture image that pops up into most peoples’ head is computer system. Like, you know, we need a systems expert here because our system is not working.
The second most common association is management control system, as, “It’s not my fault, it’s the stupid system.” Right, so, these are the two associations that come first to people and neither of them is what we are trying to help people understand.
So, whenever I am trying to help people understand what the word system means I usually start off by saying, “Are you part of a family?”. Everybody is part of a family. Have you ever seen in a family people producing consequences in the family, how people act, how people feel, that aren’t what anybody intends. Yes. How does that happen? Well, you know, then people can tell their stories and think about it, but, that then grounds people in, not the jargon, system, or systems thinking, but the reality that we live in webs of interdependence.
In Learning Organization..
People continually expand their capacity to create the results they truly desire.
New and expansive patterns of thinking are nurtured
Collective aspiration is set free
People are continually learning how to learn together
The impulse to learn in children goes deeper than desires to respond and adapt more effectively to environment change.
The impulse to learn, at its heart, is an impulse to be generative, to expand our capability.

Organization learn only through individuals who learn. Individual learning does not guarantee organization learning.
People with a high level of personal mastery live in a continual learning mode.
Personal mastery is not something you possess. It is a process. It is a lifelong discipline.
“Mental models” are deeply ingrained assumption, generalizations, or even pictures or images that influence how we understand the world and how we take action. Very often, we are not consciously aware of our mental models or the effects they have on our behavior.
The disciples starts with turning the mirror inward; learning to unearth our internal pictures of the world, to bring them to the surface and hold them rigorously to scrutiny.
Includes the ability to carry on ‘learningful’ conversations that balance inquiry and advocacy, where people expose their own thinking effectively and make that thinking open to the influence of others.
How can a team of committed managers with individual IQs above 120 have a collective IQ of 63? The discipline of team learning confronts this paradox.
Starts with ‘dialogue’, the capacity of members of a tam to suspend assumptions and enter into a genuine ‘thinking together’.
To the Greeks dia-logos meant a free-flowing if meaning through a group, allowing the group to discover insights not attainable individually.
It also involves learning how to recognize the patterns of interaction in teams that undermine learning.
It’s the capacity to hold a shared picture of the future we seek to create. Such a vision has the power to be uplifting - and to encourage experimentation and innovation.
We learn best from our experience, but we never directly experience the consequences of many of our most important decisions.
We tend to think that cause and effect will be relatively near to one another. Thus when faced with a problem, it is the ‘solutions’thatare close by that we focus upon.
When we fail to grasp the systemic source of problems, we are left to “push on” symptoms rather that eliminate the underlying cause.
Systems thinking show that there is no outside - that the cause of your problems are part of a single system.
1. Today’s problems come from yesterdays’ “solutions”
2. The harder you push the harder the system pushes back
3. Behavior will grow worse before it grows better
4. The easy way out usually lead back in
5. The cure can be worse than the disease
6. Faster is slower
7. Cause and effect are not closely related in time and space
8. Small changes can produce big results…but the areas of highest leverage are often the least obvious
9. You can have your cake and eat it too, but not all at once
10. Dividing an elephant into 2 does not produce 2 small elephants
11. There is no blame
1. I am my position.
2. The enemy out there.
3. The illusion of Taking Charge
4. The Fixation on Events
5. The Parable of Boiling frog
6. The Delusion of Learning from Experience
7. The Myth of the Management Team
Leaders in learning organizations are responsible for building organization where people are continually expanding their capabilities to shape the future – that is, leaders are responsible for learning.
Leaders as designers
1st task: Building a foundation of purpose and core value (governing ideas)
2nd task: develop policies, strategies and structures that translate governing ideas in decisions
3rd task: develop learning processes
Leaders as teachers
Helping people achieve more accurate, more insightful and more empowering views of reality
Bring to surface peoples mental models
Help people think at the System Structure Level (L1: Events; L2: Patterns of behavior; L3: Systemic Structure)
Leaders as stewards
Commitment and responsibility for the vision
Stewards of the vision: manage it for the benefit of others
Leader does not own the vision
