LTE-M Feature: Extended Battery Life
Power Saving Mode (PSM)
Allows the device to enter extended “sleep” periods.
Extended Discontinuous Reception (eDRX)
Allows the device to extend the time interval in which it will listen for synchronization messages from the network
Net Benefit: Together these features together can extend battery life to 10+ years
Best practices for long battery life are not “off the shelf” with the network and device. Requires a power save strategy and alignment between device and application.

Leak Detection
Sensors
Problem:
– Aging water infrastructure is
a major problem for water
utilities.
– 20%-30% water lost as non-
revenue
– Replacement cost excess $1 M
per mile
IoT Solution:
– Solution enables
identification of a leak at
inception via acoustic sensors
– Ability to monitor progression
of leak, and schedule
maintenance events as needed
instead of emergency basis.
– Addresses sustainability
initiatives
