SLIDE LAYOUT• Predefined arrangement
of placeholders for text or objects (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014)
• Located in the Layout Gallery (drop down list contain thumbnails) and shown as thumbnails (miniature pictures of the layout)
SAVING IN DIFFERENT FILE FORMATS
• Default file extension for PowerPoint 2013 is .pptx• Not compatible with Office 2003 and earlier
versions – must download the compatibility pack• File > Save As > Save As Type
SAVING OPTIONS
• File > Options > Save• Allows the user to change the default file
type• Allows the user to change the time for
AutoSave• Allows the user to change the default file
location from Documents
EMBEDDING FONTS
• If a PowerPoint is opened on a computer that does not have the font that the PowerPoint uses, PowerPoint will use an alternative font in the presentation
• Embedding Fonts saves the fonts within the presentation so that the font will not be changed if it is opened on a computer that does not have the font
• Embedding fonts increases file size
TEMPLATES
• A predesigned presentation (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014)• May or may not include sample text• Can be downloaded from the Internet or
the user can create a template
THEMES
• A scheme of complementing colors (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014)• Templates can have multiple themes
ADDING/DELETING SLIDES
• To Add a Slide• Home > Slides Group > New Slide > Choose Layout
• Duplicating (Copying) Slides• Home > New Slide > Duplicate Selected Slides
• Key Terms:• Contiguous (side by side) – Press and hold the Shift key to
select the first and the last in the series• Non-Contiguous (non-adjacent) – press and hold the Control
key to select slides that are not beside each other
ORGANIZING SLIDES
• Easy to do using the Slide Sorter View• Drag and Drop the slides
CREATE A PRESENTATION FROM A WORD OUTLINE
• Feature that allows you to create a presentation from an outline created in MS Word
• Indent Level: The distance of a paragraph of text from the placeholder’s left border. (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014)
• The more an item is indented, the less important it is
• Promote: Make the bullet a higher level (Shift + Tab)• Demote: Make the bullet a lower level (Tab)
REUSE SLIDES
• Allows the user to insert slides from other presentations
• Home > Slides > New Slide > Reuse Slides• Slide Library: feature on a SharePoint server
that enables people to publish presentations with each slide saved as an individual file (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014)
ADDING NOTES TO SLIDES
• Typed in the Notes Task Pane• Note: Additional information associated
with a slide that the audience will not see (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012)• Presenter View: Requires two monitors, one
displays notes to the presenter, the second displays in Slide Show view to the audience
PRINTING SLIDES
• Full Page Slides: (Default) prints with one slide on a page
• Notes pages: prints one slide to a page with any notes that appear in the Notes Task Pane
• Outline: Does not print any graphics and puts the presentation in an outline format
• Handouts: prints multiple slides per sheet for the audience to use
PRINTING SLIDES
• Frame Slides: Places a border around each slide• Scale to Fit: Adjusts the size of the slides to fit the
sheet of paper• High Quality: Prints shadows and graphics on slides• Print Comments and Ink Markup: prints any
comments that the user added to the presentation
