The Divertimento is Druckman's first published work, and one that holds its own with his later output. Delizie contente leaps past Varese's electronic and acoustic inspiration to bring forward a unique melding of pre-Baroque tastefulness with sparkling modernity. Then, playing at the threshold of sound, you are introduced to the soul of quietude in Bó, in an instrumentation that is perfect for its purpose and unique in music. Finally, returning to an instrumentation that has ever challenged the mightiest of composers, and is often their choice for expressing their most profound ideas, Mr. Druckman offers you his String Quartet No. 3. This is a difficult piece to perform, as is all the music on this CD, but the quartet more so by virtue of its notation and the innovative techniques required to produce the uniquesonorities he sought.

The composer participated in all the recording sessions for this project except the string quartet, which was recorded posthumously. Druckman was a master with consummate taste, and it shows in the New YorkPhilomusica's account of his work.
