International Study Programs (ISP) was founded in 1999 with the aim to assist universities and business schools with their
international residencies to various destinations all over the world. We specialize in the design and development of academic
programs which give students the opportunity to explore the countrys business environment and local business practices. Our
academic programs are accompanied by various cultural events which enable students to learn more about the countrys culture and
way of life.
ISP prepared the following program together with your university and would like to welcome you to the Czech Republic. We hope
the program will broaden your knowledge and understanding of international business issues and will be one of the unforgettable
experiences of your studies.
May we wish you a pleasant and enjoyable stay!

Ogilvy
Location: Viale Lancetti, 29, Milano
Website: http://www.ogilvy.it/homepage.html
Industry: Public Relations and International Marketing
Overview
In 1948, David Ogilvy founded the agency that would become
Ogilvy & Mather. Starting with no clients and a staff of two,
he built his company into one of the eight largest advertising
networks in the world. Today it has more than 450 offices in
169 cities.
Ogilvys history is the evolution of one man's thoughts,
talents, and work ethic translated into a company culture, a
defining business strategy, a destiny.
From the very beginning, David Ogilvy intended to have a
different kind of company. He knew that if he was going to be
successful as an expatriate running an under-capitalized
offshoot of an old British firm in the country that invented
modern advertising (in the city that was its epicenter), he
would need to build a strong agency brand.
The first two fundamental components of that brand would
be the quality and diversity of the people, and the quality and
class of the operation. "Only first class business, and that in a
first class way."
The third component was his belief in brands. "Every
advertisement is part of the long-term investment in the
personality of the brand."
David worked relentlessly to instill the belief that his job is to
make advertising that sells, and the advertising that sells best
is advertising that builds brands. Over the past 60 years,
Ogilvy has helped to build some of the most recognizable
brands in the world: American Express, Sears, Ford, Shell,
Barbie.

Getting Around
Milan boasts an incredible network of trams, buses and highly efficient "metro". They are quite convenient and represent a real
opportunity to make the most of your visit. Timetables and line routes are shown at all tram and bus stops while in the metropolitan
railway stations, panels indicate the destination and the waiting time for the next train.
Metro (Subway) The Metro (which logo is a big white M on a red
background) has three lines, each commonly identified
by a color as shown below, and is the best way to get
around Milan. The lines are: MM1, red (rossa); MM2,
green (verde); MM3, yellow (gialla). Lines MM4 and
MM5 are under construction to be completed by 2015,
as many other extension of existing lines. The subway
network is rather extended (lines split into different
sections and its 72 stations cover most areas of town).
Trains run every 1-3 minutes. Service starts at 6.00 am and the last trains run at around midnight
(2am on Saturday nights).
Trams Trams (streetcars) run above-ground on rail lines
running through the streets. Being above ground
means you get a view of what you're passing, so if you
don't need to go far, they're convenient and fun. Some
tram lines are operated by the ultramodern 'jumbo'
green tram, others are run by yellow or orange antique
traditional carriages (similar to the ones in San
Francisco) with wooden paneling inside and glass
chandeliers. There is also a restaurant tram and a party
tram with disco music. Many tram stops have
electronic information panels with indications on how many minutes to wait before the next
available service. These are known as trams and an Italian (or non-American foreigner for that
matter) will have no idea what you are talking about if you ask them where to find a 'streetcar'.
Buses Buses should probably be your third public transport
option. They are equally comfortable, rather punctual
and clean with many routes to choose from. ATM
streetcar and bus services stop around 2am. However,
some lines end their service earlier and some do not
have a night service at all. In any case check your route
and timetable in advance if you want to travel late at
night. From 8pm to 2am a special shuttle service is
operated by ATM, called Radio bus, an on-call bus
accessible only by pre-booking.
Taxi Taxis in Milan are efficient and give the possibility to
reach any destination quite rapidly. Taxis are not very
easy to flag down off the street; they just don't do it
here. It is a good idea to go to a taxi stand or to call one.
If you take a taxi at night and on holidays you will have
to pay a surcharge. A supplement is required also in case
you have some luggage.

Milan is recognized internationally as one of the world's most
important fashion capitals. Like most other major fashion
capitals, Milan has two fashion weeks, one in Spring and another
in Autumn. Milan began as a centre of fashion in the Middle-
Ages and Renaissance. The making of luxury goods was an
industry of such importance that in the 16th century the city
gave its name to the English word milaner or millaner,
meaning fine wares like jewelry, cloths, hats and luxury apparels.
Milan has been home to numerous fashion designers, including
Giorgio Armani, Valentino Garavani, Gianni Versace, Gianfranco Ferr, Miuccia Prada, Krizia, Moschino,
Etro, Trussardi, Missoni, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Panettone
Panettone is a type of sweet bread loaf originally from Milan (in
Milanese it is called "paneton") usually prepared and enjoyed for
Christmas and New Year in Italy. In the early 20th century, two
enterprising Milanese bakers began to produce panettone in large
quantities in the rest of Italy. In 1919, Angelo Motta started
producing his eponymous brand of cakes. It was also Motta who
revolutionised the traditional panettone by giving it its tall domed
shape by making the dough rise three times, or almost 20 hours,
before cooking, giving it its now-familiar light texture.
Gorgonzola
The most famous Milanese cheese is without a doubt
Gorgonzola, that rich, strongly flavored cheese that reigns
supreme at the Milan dinner table. It's a creamy cheese, that has
blue veins running through it, made from unskimmed cow's or
goat's milk. Also it may be melted into a risotto in the final stage
of cooking, or served alongside polenta. Pasta with gorgonzola is
a dish appreciated almost everywhere in Italy, usually
gorgonzola goes on short pasta, such as penne, rigatoni etc., not
with spaghetti or linguine. Because of its distinctive flavor, it is
frequently offered as pizza topping.
