INTRODUCTION• Found naturally in the natural fuel oil
• 1-propanol was discovered by Chancel when he was doing fractional distillation of fuel oil
• Hydroformylation process was discovered by Otto Roelen in 1938 during the investigation of oxygenated products by using cobalt as catalyst in Fischer-Tropsch reaction
• Early 1970’s, rhodium catalysts introduced
USES
GLOBAL PRODUCTION• Six main producer of 1-
propanol (United States, Western Europe, and South Africa)
• Worldwide production capacity for 1-propanol of 180,000 tonne/year
PRODUCTION IN MALAYSIA
• Propanol can be produced as by product in the production of other products
• 1-Propanol are imported from other country
• Malaysia‘s exports of propanol by country
