(561) 868-3773This online, 8-course Emergency Management certificate program will prepareyou to enter this emerging field. Emergency managers coordinate disasterresponse or crisis management activities, provide disaster preparednesstraining, and prepare emergency plans and procedures for natural disasters(e.g. hurricanes, floods, earthquakes), wartime, or technological incidents(e.g., nuclear power plant emergencies, hazardous materials spills) or hostagesituations. Use your certificate to obtain an exciting, rewarding job in thisfield or to gain additional skills for your current position. The programprovides you with many national certifications from the Federal EmergencyManagement Administration (FEMA). Credits in this program may also beapplied towards the Fire Science A.S. degree.

(561) 868-3911Chances are you have passed an EMT-Basic on theroad. They often drive ambulances, but that’s not allthey do. Basic EMTs are an important link in the life-saving chain, providing basic emergency care such asstabilizing patients, controlling bleeding and givingoxygen. Palm Beach State College’s one semester,limited access program prepares you for this greatcareer. We offer convenient day and evening hours.When you finish, you’ll be eligible to take the statetest to become certified. The 11 credits you earn inthe EMT program can be applied toward an A.S.degree in Emergency Medical Services. This programis a prerequisite to the Paramedic program.

(561) 868-3911Paramedics are trained to provide advanced lifesupport procedures such as performing intubationsand providing defibrillation to cardiac arrest victims.Our intensive 12-month program includes clinicalexperiences in area hospitals and on emergencyresponse units where you care for patients inemergency settings. You must meet certain criteria tobe placed in the selection pool, including completionof the EMT-Basic program. This is a limited accessprogram. Upon successful completion of theprogram, you will be eligible to test for FloridaParamedic Certification. The 42 credits you earn inthe Paramedic program can be applied toward anA.S. degree in Emergency Medical Services.

(561) 868-3911If you want to advance in the paramedic field,consider the Emergency Medical Services A.S.degree. This program offers additional knowledge,beyond the Paramedic certificate, in education,management and technology. The credits you earnin the EMT-Basic and paramedic programs will applytoward your A.S. degree. Our faculty is one of thefinest with nationally recognized leaders inmanagement, education, EMS and fire rescueservices. Paramedics with an A.S. degree are indemand for educational and supervisory positions.Professional positions requiring this degree offerhigher annual salaries. With an A.S. degree you alsomay receive additional pay from the state as aneducational incentive.

Firefighter Post Secondary Adult Vocational

(561) 868-3911The Firefighter program gives you top-notchinstruction and training to fight any blaze, whetherit’s a small kitchen accident or a 200-acre brush fire.You also learn safety techniques, operation of firealarms, operation of vehicles, apparatus andequipment and first responder medical techniques.You must meet certain criteria to be placed into theselection pool for this three-month program, whichincludes passing the physical ability test and scoring70 percent on the National Firefighter SelectionInventory Test. This also is a limited access program,which means you are selected using a point systembased on work experience and Palm Beach StateEMS completion. After completing the program, youwill be eligible to sit for the state licensing exam.

• Fire Apparatus Operator

Fire Inspector 1 and Fire Investigator 1 certificatesare offered for those without fire scienceexperience.

(561) 868-3911Palm Beach State College’s comprehensive CriminalJustice Institute provides training for those whowant to become a police officer or correctionsofficer or cross over from one to the other. TheCriminal Justice Institute includes:

Basic Police RecruitThis is a 23-week academy that prepares you forentry-level law enforcement work in Florida. Some ofthe admission requirements include a minimum ageof 19, a high school diploma or equivalent, successfulcompletion of the BAT (Basic Abilities Test) for lawenforcement, a physical examination, physical agilitytest, background check, polygraph examination anda psychological examination. Official high schooltranscripts (and college transcripts, if applicable) are required prior to admission into the academy.

Basic Corrections RecruitThis 15-week academy prepares you to work as anentry-level corrections officer in Florida. Some of theadmission requirements include a minimum age of19, a high school diploma or equivalent, successfulcompletion of the BAT for corrections, a physicalexamination, physical agility test, background check,polygraph examination and psychologicalexamination. Official high school transcripts (andcollege transcripts, if applicable) are required prior to admission into the academy.

Cross-Over Training CMS Law Enforcement toCorrectional OfficerThis program prepares the law enforcement officer for a moveto become a correctional officer. Requirements includeattendance and successful completion of the FDLE CertifiedLaw Enforcement Officer Basic Recruit Academy, passing scoreson both the Florida State Officers Certification Exam and theCriminal Justice Basic Abilities Test for Corrections. If you’recurrently employed by a police agency, you must submit aLetter of Good Standing from your agency.

Cross-Over Training Correctional Officer toCMS Law EnforcementThis program prepares the correctional officer for a move intolaw enforcement. Requirements include attendance andsuccessful completion of the FDLE Certified Corrections OfficerBasic Recruit Academy, passing scores on both the Florida StateOfficers Certification Exam and the Criminal Justice BasicAbilities Test for Law Enforcement, a letter of good standingfrom your current department or a copy of your correctionscertification from the Criminal Justice Standards and TrainingCommission.

Correctional Probation Officer Cross-OverTraining to Florida CMS Law EnforcementThis program prepares the licensed correctional probationofficer to become a licensed law enforcement officer throughthe Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Requirementsinclude successful completion of the BAT for law enforcement,a copy of your corrections probation certification from theCriminal Justice Standards and Training Commission and aletter of good standing from your current department.

Equivalency TrainingThis program prepares out-of-state law enforcement orcorrectional officers to become certified in Florida. The studentmust have worked at least one year, full time as a swornofficer in the discipline for which he/she is seeking exemptionor have received training in that discipline which is comparableto Florida’s full basic curriculum and/or was previously certifiedin Florida but certifications have lapsed (less than eight years – a lapse over eight years would require the student to enroll in the full Law Enforcement or Corrections Basic RecruitAcademy). Completing this program qualifies the student to sit for the state exam to become certified in the selected field.You must provide written verification from the FloridaDepartment of Law Enforcement (CJSTC-76) to qualify for this program.

Advanced and Specialized TrainingThe Criminal Justice Institute offers advanced and specializedlaw enforcement and corrections training for currentlyemployed law enforcement and corrections personnel.

(561) 868-3911The credits you earn in the Basic Police Recruit and BasicCorrections Recruit programs can be applied toward anA.S. degree in criminal justice. Advanced training anddegrees help you advance in the field and could give youan edge for promotions. They may also allow you toreceive additional pay from the state as an educationalincentive. This degree program has three concentrations:

• Law Enforcement concentration is for students whowant to become a Law Enforcement Officer.

• Corrections concentration will prepare you for jobs inprisons, prison camps, youth correctional facilities orfederal correctional institutions.

• Non-Sworn concentration is for students who wish topursue a degree in criminal justice in a law enforcementagency or related business or company, but do not wantto be a sworn officer.

Each of these concentrations focus on policeadministration, criminal law, probation, parole andcriminal investigation.

(561) 868-3911Prepare yourself to operate behind the yellow crime scene tape. Crime scenetechnologists locate, collect and identify physical evidence used to help solvecrimes. In the Associate in Science degree program, you will learn everythingfrom how to properly collect and preserve physical evidence and reconstructcrimes and vehicle accidents to how to photograph crime scenes and prepareexhibits for trial. When you finish, you’ll be trained to pursue a career as acrime scene technologist, evidence technician, medical examiner investigator,medical investigator, insurance investigator, forensic paralegal and more. Core courses are also offered in the evening, which makes attending classconvenient for those who work during the day. For people who already hold degrees but want to make a career change, Palm Beach State Collegealso offers college credit certificate programs in which students take only the 28-credit hour core courses of the program.
