Group and Cost Centre

vouchers, at transactional
level.
On Time Delivery for IFS
• Analyse Aging Orders
• Full Visibility of Late and On
Time Deliveries

#qonnections
Key Problems
• Data held in multiple sources, often required to be joined to create value-add
analysis and reporting
• ERP internal report writing tools often too simplistic
• Management feeling they are not getting value from their ERP system as they do
not ‘see’ it
• Not knowing where data is held and whether it is the correct data to analyse
• Spending lots of time creating static reports
• Re-processing the same disparate data sets each month to create same reports
• Users unable to mine data and/or reports
• Out of date reporting; users complaining that data isn’t current or live
• Point dependency on technical resources and IT
• Excel focus on reporting
Business Intelligence Issues with ERP
#qonnections
Common Issues
• Massive Excel sheet at the heart of
everything
• Difficulty in generating for different
companies or cost centers in same
organisation
• Manual correlation of many tables /
data sources
• Inability to get to detail of General
Ledger transactions
• Reliance on paper distribution at
month end
Key Points
• Standard format – deliberately
simple
• Hyperlinks back to source system
at transactional level
• Actuals or Cumulative
• Paper reports for month end
reporting
• Single or consolidated company
view
• Fast, but granular
• Incremental Load on GL
Finance Ledger
Finance Ledger
Demo
#qonnections
Common Issues
• Lack of consolidated financial KPI
view missing
• Reporting in common currencies
on a global, multi-currency, multi-
company scale
• Existing reporting mainly Excel
based and/or static
• Static and time consuming existing
reporting
• Consolidation of Regions and
accounts across companies
Key Points
• KPI dashboard view
• Currency conversion across
several common currencies
• Analysis of Project costs and
revenues
• Isolation of good/bad suppliers and
customers
• Payables, Receivables, Inventory
(PRI) consolidation
Executive Finance Dashboard

• Outputs script to load fully transformed QVDs
• Dynamically renames QlikView tables and fields
• Uniquely names all fields
• Identifies primary and foreign keys
• Full SQL statement generated
Cooper Software IFS SDK
#qonnections
• QlikView provides a powerful base for iterative development
– Finance Ledger provides a loose but flexible fit for most companies
– Exec Dashboard contains bespoke functionality built on Finance Ledger
• Performance vital when dealing with large datasets e.g. GL transactions
• Finance users love Excel
– Make it the output, rather than the processing tool
• Repeatability and paper reporting still important
• QlikView excels at Finance consolidation tasks
– Currency conversion
– Consolidation across companies

#qonnections
Differentia have developed a series of Smarter.bi propositions for
finance:
• Finance templates for JD Edwards
• Budgeting and Planning
• Smarter.PMO – Programme cost management
These are marketed to specific individuals in targeted companies.
Smarter.bi for Finance
#qonnections
Various templates have been built over specific JDE modules.
These include:
• General Ledger
• Accounts Payable
• Accounts Receivable
• Sales
• Manufacturing
…with more in development.
The templates are designed to provide a rapid implementation, where
the data being extracted and user interface can be further enhanced
to suit a specific client’s needs.
JD Edwards Templates - overview
#qonnections
Each template follows a recommended best practice 3-
tiered architecture
Template Architecture
.
The ‘front-end’ QVW loads
the QVD formatted data
and provides the user
interface.
The second QVW reads the
‘raw data’ QVDs, transforms
the data and store ‘formatted
data’ into QVD’s
The initial QlikView document
(QVW) extracts the data and
stores ‘raw data’ into
QlikView data files (QVD’s)
#qonnections
The second stage QVW performs the transformation of
the data, taking into account:
• Data dictionary tables to provide meaningful field names (as
opposed to field aliases)
• Display decimals to ensure the floating point decimals are correct
• Julian date conversions
• UDC description lookups for category codes and other user defined
fields.
The most common tables (and fields) for each module are extracted
from JDE and the table relationships defined, resulting in the most
effective QlikView table schema
JDE template – data transformation
#qonnections
All templates have a ‘starting point’ user interface with
common dashboard and analytic requirements that can
easily be adapted according to the client’s requirements
JDE Template UI Design
JDE Accounts Payable Dashboard
Aging

Spend
Payment Terms
Transactions
#qonnections
There may be a requirement to extend a template over additional
tables, or build new QlikView documents over other modules/tables,
including custom tables created in JD Edwards.
The script builder has been designed to make the task of extracting
and transforming data from JD Edwards a lot more efficient and
effective, ensuring best practices are adhered to.
The script builder is installed on the client site referencing their
specific system tables, object librarian, data dictionary etc. Specific
tables and fields can be selected and the QlikView script for the
extract and transform will be performed.

2013 Gartner Financial Executives
International CFO Technology Study
Source: Gartner Press Release, Gartner Says Business Intelligence/Analytics Is Top Area for CFO Technology
Investment Through 2014, May 2013, http://www.gartner.com/newsroom/id/2488616
“From an enterprise perspective, BI and business applications continue to dominate
the CFO's IT investment desires, although they are somewhat behind where they
were in 2012”
“These results are consistent with those of the last five years, which show that
organizations are still struggling to make progress with BI and analytics”
"With over 20 areas of choices, all of the top 12 that were chosen by CFOs can
be addressed and/or improved with investments in BI and analytics."
"The survey findings would seem to suggest that the CFO prioritizes business
applications higher than the CIO does"
“If the CIO does not understand this, then there's a chance the CFO will sponsor
his or her own initiatives, and not coordinate them with the IT organization. This
demonstrates the trend that BI is becoming less of a CIO responsibility and more of
a CFO and line-of-business responsibility”
“This year's responses show that 39 percent of IT organizations currently report
to the CFO”
