The Ballast Water Management Convention
• Designated officer should ensure that ballast water management plan (BWMP) is properly implemented (reg B-1.5);
• Officers and crew shall, appropriate to their duties, be familiar with, ships’ BWMP, safety procedures for ballast water exchange, operation and maintenance of ballast water management systems, procedure for disposal of sediments, etc. (regulation B-6 and associated Guidelines)

requires that a review shall be completed by 2018 to
determine the availability of fuel oil to comply with the
fuel oil standard
Fuel oil standard:
sulphur content of any fuel oil used on board ships shall
not exceed 0.50% on or after 1 January 2020
