OUR MISSION STATEMENT

SS. Peter & Paul Parish, a community of faith called by God to deepen

our relationship with Jesus Christ, serves the Lord by sharing our time,

talent and treasure. As disciples of Christ, we are called to bring Jesus

Christ to ourselves and others: our children, the sick, the poor, the fallen

away Catholics and those who need to hear God’s message of uncondi-

tional love and forgiveness. SS. Peter & Paul Parish is a beacon of light

rooted in Jesus Christ, passed on to his successor, our Holy Father the

Pope, and is guided by our local bishop to build the Kingdom of God on

Earth. It is our mission to shine the light of Jesus Christ in our world and

to spiritually enrich the individual members of the parish as well as the

larger community through word, worship, sacrament and service.

Thank you to those who have already joined us in “Living Faith,

Serving with Mercy,” by making a pledge to the Diocesan Annual

Appeal. On behalf of all who benefit from your gifts, Bishop Jo-

seph Bambera extends his sincere gratitude to everyone who has

already made a pledge to the 2016 Diocesan

Annual Appeal. Each gift truly matters. If you have not yet made

your gift, and need a pledge envelope, envelopes will be distributed

at Masses today. Packets are also available by calling the Diocesan

Development Office at 570-207-2250, or on-line at www.DioceseofScranton.org.

Everyone at Mass will be asked to complete the pledge form, whether or not they have made a pledge

or intend to pledge. (Note: If you have already made a pledge or gift, please check the appropriate box on the

envelope and go no further. Do not indicate the dollar amount of a gift or pledge you have already made.)

You are also invited to list your personal prayer intentions on the inside pledge form and to attend a special

Mass of Thanksgiving to be held at St. Peter’ Cathedral, Scranton, on Sunday, November 20, at 10:00 a.m.

Your intention will be remembered at this Mass celebrated by Bishop Joseph C. Bambera. Prayer intentions

are welcome whether or not you make a gift to the Diocesan Annual Appeal. Thank you.

victims and the Church impacted by Hurricane Matthew,

as requested by the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops.

Alice M. Grenell (Joan Grenell)

John F. Grenell, 2nd (Joan Grenell)

Thank You Visiting Priests

We thank Msgr. Joseph Kelly for coming to celebrate

the weekend Masses here last weekend. We are also

grateful to Father Michael Drevitch for celebrating

Mass on one weekday each of the past two weeks.

Welcome back, Father Ed!

Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta:

Pain and suffering have come into your life,

but remember: pain, sorrow, suffering are

but the kiss of Jesus—a sign that you have

come so close to Him that He can kiss you.

World Mission Sunday—Oct. 23, 2016

Today is World Mission Sunday! In announcing his

decision to declare a Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis

said, “Dear brothers and sisters, I have often thought

about how the Church might make clear its mission of

being a witness to mercy.” Supporting the young

churches all over the world with your prayers and gener-

ous gifts is indeed a merciful witness of this mission.

The collection today will help missionaries offer the

poor of these areas practical help as they share the mer-

cy of God. It will ensure the development of local dio-

ceses, and support the work of priests, religious and lay

leaders who serve those on the margins and in most

need. Extend your merciful witness to the whole world

through your gift in

today’s collection for the

Society for the Propaga-

tion of the Faith!.

For contribution credit,

use a check; or put your

name/envelope number on

your cash envelope.

Anointing of the Sick—October 30, 2016

The annual Anointing of the Sick within Mass will be

held in the parish this year on Sunday,

October 30, 2016, at 2:00 PM. This is

a wonderful opportunity for those who

are elderly, infirm, suffering health or

mental problems— whether acute or

chronic— or who just need a special

blessing.

Attending this Mass will fulfill your Sunday obliga-

tion. If you or someone you know needs this special

anointing, please come join us. A social hour with re-

freshments will follow in Grotto Hall

For additional information or directions, please

call Bob Pyznar at 297-2586 or the parish office at

570-265-2113.
