The road stretches through a beautiful landscape of mountains and forest. In the midst of nature, in the refraction between forest and mountains reveals Saltfjellet Hotell Polarsirkelen itself - a mountain lodge with unique opportuni-ties for arctic adventures. Here you can experience mountains in the land of the Arctic Circle, and Northern Lights!Saltfjellet Hotell is located by the Nordlandsbanen train line and Lønsdal station right by road E6, between Mo i Rana and Fauske/Bodo. Centrally located for a days drive to Trondheim, Lofoten / Vesterålen, Narvik, Tromsø or on your way to the North Cape.

At Saltfjellet Hotell you can experience nature right at and from the hotel. We are 490 meters above sea level, built in the early 50’s right by one of the most beautiful national parks in Norway - Saltfjellet / Svartisen.It is the most varied of Norway’s national parks and offers attractive wilderness for outdoor recreation. Junkerdalen national park and Junkerdalsura Reservoir is also close by. The traditional reindeer herding areas include an outstanding collection of Sami monuments, some dated back to the 800’s. Because of our location in a reindeer herding area we have close ties to the Sami community, and the area offers different sami activities.A wide range of marked trails attracts the hiker / skier / biker. Saltfjellet is also an attractive area for hunting and fishing. The National Park offers fine trout and char fishing, in some valleys there are many elks, and in good years grouse are in abundance. The open fells of Saltfjellet has great glacial sediments. Svar-tisen glacier is the largest ice-sheet in northern Scandinavia, and the limestone bedrock supports a rich flora with many rare species. Here you can participate in glacial walks and cave exploration. We can arrange for local guide

Saltfjellet Hotell is much updated and is now presented with a new lobby, restaurant and bar, and our 50 hotel rooms have been refurbished and are en suite. The rooms are large and many also have a double sofa bed, great for families with children! We have a playroom and sauna, and outside we have a hot tub and barbecue hut. On the lower level you will find a large bar with pool table and a dance floor .Saltfjellet Hotell prides itself in offering local food from Saltfjellet and the area around - from the mountain, farms, lakes and fjord. Reindeer wander in the mountains, so several dishes with reindeer meat is of course included in our Arctic menu!

ActivitiesSaltfjellet is a paradise for those who want to enjoy nature in all aspects! There are many marked trails in the area and several are available right from the hotel. See www.bot.no for suggestions.Saltfjellet’s eastern regions is flat and mostly very easy hiking terrain on moun-tain plateau. Some very fertile valleys cut in from both south and north. The large mammals that need plenty of space around them to thrive wander over the mountain ranges. At Saltfjellet there are large deposits of marble, which has provided the basis for amazing caves . So you can find challenges both above and below ground!Junkerdal National Park has a landscape full of contrasts with rich flora and many rare plants. The area is important in regards to Sami cultural monuments, and to understand the distribution of plant species after the last glaciation. Junkerdalsura nature reserve has one of the largest lime birch forests and flora has an incredible lushness to be this far north! Along the trail are several or-chids.

Sami AdventuresSaltfjellet is a very important area for Sami culture and sacrificial monuments. The Sami people are one of the world indigenous people. When in Sapmi, the land of the Sami, take the opportunity to learn more about their culture, cus-toms and history. Available for groups. Learn about a reindeer keeper’s every day life and/or feed and pet tame reindeer. It may also be possible to try driving a reindeer sled and to learn to throw a lasso, plus other activities depending on season

Dog SleddingTours on Saltfjellet or in Junkerdalen and Graddis can be arranged on request.

Snowmobile ExcursionsJunkerdal Tourist Center offers rental of snowmobiles that can be used on the large Swedish network of snowmobile trails. Guided tours on request .ALPINE / DOWNHILL SKIING / SNOWBOARDINGJunkerdal Tourist Center offers down hill, snow board and slalom skiing in sea-son.

The RoomsSaltfjellet Hotell has 50 hotel rooms, mostly large double rooms. When the hotel was built in 1950 there were no private facilities in the rooms, but in the early 90’s the hotel was expanded and bathrooms were included in the hotel rooms.The hotel has been updated a lot and does now have a new lobby and reception area, dining room and almost all of our 50 hotel rooms have been refurbished. Most hotel rooms are approx. 22 sqm and does also have a double sofa bed - great for families! 2 rooms for the physically handicapped on the 1st floor. Rooms for allergy sufferers.Room facilities: Bathroom with shower and toilet, TV, desk, chair/sitting area, electric water kettle.Hotel facilities: Restaurant, bar, lounge with fireplace, lobby, bar, pool table and dance floor on the lower level, conference facilities, sauna, hot tub, barbecue huts, balconies and patio, free parking and wireless internet.

The RestaurantWith local ingredienses from the Arctic Circle and the area around we make tasty and locally produced food - from farms, lakes, mountains and fjords. Our charming dining room has large windows overlooking the mountains, which cre-ates an elegant setting for your meal. Here you can enjoy homemade and local food !Reindeer wander around the mountains here so dishes with reindeer meat are of course included in our Arctic menu! Can we tempt you with sautéed reindeer meat with mashed potatoes and lingonberries, or filet of reindeer with au gratin potatoes and mushroom stew? From the salmon we get from the Saltenfjord we create the most delicious dishes, like fish soup and baked salmon with potato wedges and fennel salad.

During the summer our dining room is open every day until 21:00, and the rest of the year during weekends, or by appointment. Our hotel guests will of course always be able to enjoy a good meal with us!Our menu varies by the season and what is available of local products at any time .
