Twitter trends younger than Facebook, but Instagram and Tumblr still beat it out with the youngest populations of users (source).
Most of the users that interact with us on Facebook are prospective students and counseling professionals. We are followed by many prospective students and most interact with us by retweeting or “favoriting” our content. The great thing about Twitter is that it’s a casual community. Students can interact with us easily without the pressure of a phone call and we can respond very quickly. I also follow prospective students which allows them to direct message our account if they have more personal questions. Twitter allows you to “mute” users without their knowledge so you can follow them without seeing their posts.
Instagram and Twitter both make it easy to reward our followers with “social media swag” such as likes, favorites, retweets, and follows. I definitely stepped up the amount of “social media swag” we give out this year and we have seen increased interaction and followers as a result.
As of July 15, 2015, @UNCGAdmissions has 1,623 followers.
Below I’ve included some of the statistics and highlights from this year in social media. But there is so much more out there! I would encourage you all to peruse our accounts and check out what we’ve done this year. In addition, our marketing team has just created cover photos for #UNCG19 students that can be seen at admissions.uncg.edu/discover-UNCG19.php.

Facebook still has 3 times the users Twitter does, but trends older than other social media platforms with only about 37% of users aged 35 or younger. The largest percentage increase in 2016 is expected to be among users 65 and older (Source). Most of the users that interact with us on Facebook are alums and staff members. We are followed by many prospective students and parents, so they should be seeing our content even though they interact with the page very little. As of July 15, 2015, we have 2,835 likes on the UNCG Undergraduate Admissions Facebook page.

New Platforms to Explore
Our marketing intern Ashleigh has been investigating the possibility of creating an Admissions blog. Content would be created by Spartan Guides during office hours and monitored by the staff social media coordinator. We’re looking into Tumblr as a platform.
Advantages of Tumblr: • No subscription fee. Only cost would be our time. • Flexible web-design. You can change your blog to look
however you want. • Will look great on mobile devices with little to no
effort. • Anyone can view a Tumblr blog, you don’t have to
have an account with Tumblr. • Easy to cross-post content on Instagram, Twitter, and
Facebook. They are well-integrated. • Anyone who has a Tumblr blog can easily and quickly
reblog content. • Commenting is pretty easily controlled… except when
someone reblogs your content, then they can add whatever comment they want, just like when someone quotes a tweet.
• Users use hashtags to search for content, just like on twitter.
• 23% of users are 18-24, 27% of users are 25-34 (Source).
• Would likely get more interaction than if we had a standalone blog. People already have Tumblr accounts, so they wouldn’t have to create an account to interact with us.
Disadvantages of Tumblr: • Can only have one “main blog.” If you
have multiple blogs, you can’t like content as your secondary blog, only as your main blog.
• Tumblr users post a wide variety of content, some of it NSFW (not safe for work). But, other users content shouldn’t affect us unless we repost it.
• Would have to use “uncgadmissions.tumblr.com” unless we wanted to pay for our own domain name.

Render Experiences suggested we create Snapchat filters so our guests can use them when they take pictures on tour. Snapchat filters are locked to a specific location, so they would only be useable when a Snapchat user is on campus.
Spartan Guide Cameron created these awesome Snapchat filters for us! We can submit multiple filters to Snapchat, but they will have to be approved by the company before they are implemented. They could approve one or both of the filters. We have not submitted either yet. What you all think?

This mailing is sent out every year to admitted freshmen to remind
them to complete their enrollment steps. The images below show the
evolution of the piece from the first year I was project manager to the
current year’s piece.
Promotional Items
We serve over 10,000 tour guests a
year. Last year we incorporated a stop
in Fountain View and a drink into our
tour! Guests get a navy UNCG
branded cup with #SeeTheG on the
opposite side. Our tour guides prompt
them to use the hashtag to share their
tour experience on social media.

Event Management
Since I began working in Undergraduate
Admissions, I have co-coordinated
Desination UNCG, our admitted student
open house.
I order all promotional items for the event
and have input on all print materials
(pictured on the left).
In addition, I coordinate the opening session,
all social media for the event, catering, and
room reservations.
This year, we hosted 673 students and 1035
of their guests.
89% of students who attended Destination
UNCG confirmed that they plan to attend
UNCG in Fall 2015.

International Civil Rights Center & Museum
If you’re looking for something to do after Destination UNCG, why not explore more of Greensboro? Below is just a small sampling of the events and attractions our city has to offer.
On February 1, 1960, four black college students sat down at the all-white Woolworth’s lunch counter in downtown Greensboro. That first “sit-in” is widely recognized as a catalyst of the Civil Rights Movement. Located at the site of the original Woolworth’s store, the International Civil Rights Center & Museum is an archival center, museum, and teaching facility dedicated to the international struggle for civil and human rights.

Weatherspoon Art Museum The Weatherspoon Art Museum with it’s premier collection of modern and contemporary art, is located right on UNCG’s campus at the corner of Spring Garden and Tate streets. Featuring the work of artists from around the globe as well as UNCG students and faculty, this museum is well worth a trip! The Weatherspoon is currently featuring Zones of Contention: After the Green Line, an exhibition of various artists’ explorations of the boundary between Israel and Palestine.

Greensboro Science Center With a museum, planetarium, zoo, and aquarium, the Greensboro Science Center is the only facility of its kind in the state. The center hosts daily zoo keeper talks and 3-D planetarium shows, and numerous special events.

Event Management
This year, I coordinated a brand
new event – Junior Day, a
enhanced campus tour for rising
seniors.
I created an event marketing plan,
worked with our technology
manager to invite students via e-
mail, worked with a designer to
create a paper invitation, and
created a college checklist for all
participants (on following 2 pages).
We hosted 300 students and 389
of their guests at our inaugural
Junior Day this past May.
Juniors – are you ready? In order to get into the college of your dreams, you’re going to need a plan! Below is a checklist that we hope will help you plan for the year ahead.

Review your career plans and decide what type of school is right for you. Narrow your list of schools and decide which to visit. Visit a variety of colleges to decide what environment is best for you. Register to take the SAT and/or ACT if you have not already. Register to retake the SAT and/or ACT if you are not satisfied with your first scores.
This Summer
Decide where you want to apply. Make a list of admissions application deadlines and fees. Note that some schools have
multiple deadlines – there may be early deadlines for scholarship consideration, early decision, or priority consideration.
Make a list of all the clubs, athletic teams, service projects, and other organizations you have worked or volunteered with while in high school. Ask your parents if you need help – sometimes they remember what you’ve done better than you do.
August
Start sending your college applications. Apply to several schools, including “dream schools” and
“safety schools.” For colleges that require an essay, develop a rough draft
and consult your English teacher if necessary. Ask your teachers for recommendations. Give them plenty
of time to write. Don’t ask at the last minute! Put in a request for your high school guidance office to
send an official transcript to each college you’ve applied to.
September
Plan to attend open houses at your top choices.
Take the SAT or ACT if you haven’t already. Make sure to have your official scores sent to the colleges you’ve applied to.
Finish your applications. Watch out for early
deadlines!
Start the Free Application for Federal Student aid at FAFSA.gov.
December 1 is UNCG’s priority application deadline (also the deadline to be considered for merit scholarships!)

Submit your completed FAFSA as soon after January 1 as possible.
Start watching the mail for acceptance letters!
Don’t get senioritis! Colleges will check your final grades. If they have dropped, your offer of admission can be rescinded.
Start looking for scholarship award letters.

March 1 is the priority deadline for filing the FAFSA. March 1 is also UNCG’s final application deadline. Look for your Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail. Be on the lookout for information from the your college’s financial aid office. They will
begin putting together financial aid award packages in March and notify you when yours is ready.
Plan to attend admitted student open house!

Make your final college selection. Send in your enrollment deposit (if necessary) to the
college you select. UNCG does not have an enrollment deposit, just be sure to let us know you’ll be attending!
Notify other schools that you will not be attending. Watch for important dates and deadlines at your chosen
college (housing, orientation, financial aid, etc.).
April
May 1 is National College Decision Day. You must notify all schools of your decision by May 1.
Review financial aid information; decline offers from schools you will not be attending.

High School Graduation! Attend college orientation.
