Dengue Prevention CampaignsDengue prevention campaigns were organized in the Kaduwela and the Homagamadivisions on the 21st of July 2012, many important officials from the Sri Lanka Red CrossSociety (SLRCS) and other officials like the Public Health Inspector (PHI), Medical OfficerHealth (MOH), members from the Municipal Council and community leaders werepresent for this campaign.
The SLRCS provided volunteers, caps and leaflets to educate the public on the
eradication of dengue also making sure that a thorough check was done in each andevery house with the help of the community.
The Kaduwela Campaign was continued for 2 months and an estimate of 800 houseswere searched in the process and a shramadana was organized in the Homagama
division.

FIRST AID
SERVICES
Our team of well trained First
Aid instructors and volunteers
were present on the 21st of July2012 at the Weediyagoda
Maha Vihara Perahara in case
an issue errupted. 20 numbersof well trained Volunteers and
6 Instructors contributed to
make the event a success.
A team of First aid volunteers
were also present in the
Kothalawalapura Maha Vidyaladuring the opening on the 28th of
July 2012 where his Excellency the
President Mahinda Rajapakshewas also present.
A first aid training was
conducted by our trained
officials for the students of thePresidents College in Kotte. Theevent took place at the schools
premises on the 06th of July2012.

COMMERCIAL FIRST AID TRAINING PROGRAMS
This is one of the largest commercial activities in the branch;here the programme is mainly focused on Private Internationalschools, Banks, Garments, Companies and Sri Lankas securityorces. The main objectives of these training programmes are toeducate the public on first aid so that in case of an emergencyhere will be a sufficient amount of individuals.
Our trained staff from the commercial First Aid department haveconducted more than 15 trainings for the month of July alone.
The Unilever group of companies, one of the largest companiesn the manufacturing industries in Horana had a 1 dayprogramme for 35 numbers of employees on the 09th of July2012. Our first team was present in the premises to initially startoff with the Unilever safety week with first aid training.
Another programme was conducted for the Sri Lanka Police inAwissawella for the traffic division on the 28th of July 2012.
Our instructors conducted a yearly training programme for
HSBC one of the leading banks in the world and in Sri Lanka onhe 26th and the 27th of July 2012 for a 55 numbers ofparticipants.

INTEGRATED PROGRAMME FORCOMMUNITY RESILIENCE (IPCR)
The Integrated Programme for Community Resilience
was launched in the Colombo branch on the 16th
of March2012. Initially this programme is in the assessment stage.
Baseline surveys were conducted by the IPCR team atJalthara, Ambalangoda / Heraliyawala which both belongto the Homagama DS division. The 2nd survey was doneat Dahampura, Sedawatta and Megoda Kolonnawa in theKolonnawa DS division.
Vulnerability Capacity Assessments (VCA) were thenconducted at the Ambalangoda and Jalthara area on the
22nd to the 25th of July 2012 and the 29th to the 31st ofJuly 2012, The Dhahampura area in Kolonnawa also hada VCA on the 29th to the 31st of July 2012.
The main objective of this assessment was to identify allHazards, Vulnerabilities and Capacities in the communityand to address issue through a participatory manner.

MICRO ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT
Initially this project started for the community in theKandalawatte area funded by the Taiwan MOU project inJune 2011 to enhance livelihood opportunities andcommunity social structures.
Evaluation was done in the year 2012 for an investmentLoan for the community of Homagama and the loandispersing took place on the 03rd of August 2012 whereloans were given to 27 beneficiaries according to theirincome generation and an estimated value of 3 millionwas given to the beneficiaries.
The function was inaugurated by the President of SLRCSaccompanied by the BEO of Colombo branch and otherimportant officials from the NHQ and the Colombo branchitself.

AMBULANCE SERVICES
Our ambulance division consists of well trained staff with modern technology and we provide ourservices for international and national events or any case of an emergency of any sort.
Two of our ambulances were accompanied by our well trained staff on the 03rd
of July 2012 for thelargest student Perahara in the world known as the Asela Maha Perahara which was organized by theMinistry of Education. The Perahara started off in front of Mahanama College, Colombo via the TempleTrees and finally ended in front of the Gangarama Maha Viharaya.
Meanwhile on the 14th of July 2012 MAS Fabric had a training programme in their very own training parkin Thulhiriya and our branch was more than happy to provide our ambulance services for the training.
HOME NURSING PROJECT
The Home Nursing Project of the Colombo branch is still functioning well asa service delivery programme for the branch itself.
The nursing project provides services for the critically ill and handicappedpatients where professionally trained nurses are sent and all the care andsupport is given from the comfort of the patient home itself.
There are 50 numbers of well trained nurses who are very well capable oflooking after patients.
The SLRCS nursing project is also planning on starting a professionalschool for nurses by initially providing one month general courses forindividuals and school leavers who are interested in doing nursing in orderto support the government as an auxiliary and reducing the unemploymentpercentage in of Sri Lanka.
