SEPTEMBER 2018 | THIRD TERM | VOLUME 1 # 30
Last week we celebrated International Marine Week and a big thank you to Mrs Viviers and Mrs
Mabhena in The Hive who held special ocean video showings every break during the week to highlight
and create an awareness of the need to look after our oceans.
Looking back at this past week, we established yet another tradition. Our Early Years Centre concert
was an absolute delight for all who were privileged to see it – and it was even live-streamed on our
Facebook page so that it could be viewed from afar. There were proud moments for many as the
extended family arrived to watch with bated breath how their little darlings performed on stage.
Grade 6 students were invited to apply to be part of the Johannesburg Mini Council. Students were
asked to complete a questionnaire and were interviewed by a panel comprising Mr Mitchell, Mr Bhengu
and me. It was a difficult decision, but only 6 students could be selected to attend the Johannessburg
Mini Council Leadership Dinner. Congratulations to Thandolwethu Cele, Luke Groeneveld, India Josias,
Jessica Lloyd, Serumula Mathekga, and Cameron Oshry on their selection. We thank our current
representatives on the Johannesburg Mini Council, Ethan Borrageiro and Nehelo Malebo, who did
Steyn City School proud at every meeting.
Our U11 Boys Cricket team won their first match this week by 8 wickets. Well done to them!
As we continue to raise funds for an end of year gift for our support staff, a reminder that the last
Civvies Day will be held on Friday 26 October. The theme is “Happy Hat Day” and students may wear a
crazy, whacky hat of their choice for the day for a minimum donation of R20.

THE NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD OF SOUTH AFRICA 2018 MS CLEGG
Over the past two months, several of our students participated in two Arts Festivals in Johannesburg.
The National Eisteddfod and the Creative Arts Festival offer students the opportunity to gain
