J623 is What ?
4
Beginnings of SAGE
• GIS/COP Requirements– Already Established at USNORTHCOM
– Need speed and reliability of information between Operational Nodes
– Move toward a Service Oriented Architecture
– Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Compliant GIS standards, not systems
5
SAGE Background
• SAGE Architecture– Track data from NORTHCOM Global
Command and Control System
– WFS, Web Feature Service for tracks and GIS layers
– WMS, Web Mapping Services for tracks and GIS layers
– Tracks are published by domain, and by Area of Operations
6
• What do I get out of SAGE?
1. A Web based viewer
2. A 3D Desktop viewer
3. Backbone web services
SAGE Bottomline
Ability to log events, uses N-NC mission data
N-NC specific tasks,

SAGE Data
• What data will SAGE provide?– Around 5,000 US Coast Guard Automated
Identification System (AIS) vessel tracks.
– About 500 UNCLASS Blue Force Tracking (BFT) ground tracks.
– Event specific Air and Marine Operations Center (AMOC) tracks from DHS.
– GIS layer feeds covering Critical Infrastructure and specific NORTHCOM missions.

Sponsorship/Operational Requirements
– A GIS backoffice with tracks from GCCS
– Provide products to support real world events, exercises, and other internal requirements to lookers.
• Web Based Clients for lookers (Based on Palanterra SP6 until 9.2 ADF is mature)
• Tracks consumable via web service (WFS & ArcGIS Server)
• Ability to publish tracks for specific domains
–– Situational Awareness Situational Awareness Geospatial Enterprise (SAGE)Geospatial Enterprise (SAGE)
– Large physical infrastructure to support multiple lookers (Our Internet Service Provider for GIS)
• Supporting mission partners who want to look at real world events, exercises, and other external requirements
• NORAD-USNORTHCOM has direct management of users
• Security and reliability are current concerns
– Must sit on Internet– Includes track data–– TRITONTRITON

SAGE FY 07 Goals
Continue to improve our Situational Awareness / Common Operational Picture by establishing:
– Geospatial Information System (GIS) Data as a Commodity - Make GIS a commodity within the command by instituting an enterprise GIS capability that everyone can use.
– An Internet Accessible, Web-based COP - We need an Internet-accessible, Web-based COP capable of meeting our expanded needs of sharing situational awareness with our DoD and non-DoD partners.
