About This Manual
Purpose
WCDMA 3G mobile telecommunication system, developed by ZTE independently, consists of ZXWN (ZTE WCDMA Core Network) and ZXWR (ZTE WCDMA Radio Network Subsystem). ZXWR radio network subsystem consists of ZXWR RNC (Radio Network Controller) and ZXWR Node B.
This manual describes structural characteristics, functional principles, technical indices, connection mode, wiring characteristics and signal characteristics of ZXWR RNC cabinet, cabinet top, subracks, shelves and boards. It helps users to get familiar with the hardware system of WCDMA RNC and serves as the Base Clock during t6he engineering construction and routine maintenance.
Intended Audience
This manual is intended for engineers and technicians who perform operation activities on the ZXWR OMM.

The air enters the rack mainly from the ventilation hole at the bottom of the front/rear door and the bottom of the cabinet. Dustproof measurements are taken at all ventilation holes. There installs a group of fans at the top of the rack, which run for the ventilation inside the rack.
Modules Cabinet Door
Definition
ZXWR RNC doors include the front and rear doors that can be opened and closed, and the removable side doors. The front and rear doors are the same, with dense ventilation holes. The doors can help to keep the cabinet in well heat dissipation. The cabinet

Busbar
Definition
ZXWR RNC rack is connected with the busbar, which makes the networking easier and more flexible. The power supply and the grounding of the system are all connected through the busbar.

Definition The cabinet top is located on the top of the cabinet.
The power supply input interface, signal cable input/output channels, cabinet-top fans and redundant fibers are all connected at the cabinet top.

Cabinet-top Fan
Definition
The cabinet-top fan plays an important role in the validation and heat dissipation of the whole equipment. The cabinet-top fan consists of the installation base, fans (6 in all) and the monitoring circuit board. Except for the cabinet-top fans, a fan subrack is installed on the Layer 1 shelf, Layer 3 shelf and the dustproof subrack respectively.

Cabinet-top Filter
Definition
The cabinet-top filter is the interface where the power supply of the whole equipment enters. -48 V cable from the equipment room is connected to the input end of the cabinet-top filter. After the filter, the power output is connected to PDM inside the cabinet.

Subrack
Definition Subracks are used to combine all boards and parts into an independent functional unit, providing a good running environment for all units.
Classifications ZXWR RNC subracks include the following types:

PDM Subrack Definition
PDM (Power Distribution Module) subrack locates at the utmost top of the cabinet, providing the power supply for the whole cabinet.
Functions
The PDM subrack performs the following functions:
1. Distributing the power supply for all shelves inside the rack;
2. Performing the automatic switchover for the 2 channels of external input power supply and performing the dual backup of the power supply;

3. PWRD and PWRDB (the rear board of PWRD) inside PDM indicate the power supply, monitor the environment and monitor the internal fan subrack.

PDM subrack is generally used as subrack module.
The connection terminal locates on the back of the frame. The rear cover cannot be uncovered and it must be equipped with energy security protection. There installs PWRD on the front panel of the subrack, for monitoring. The front panel can turn outwards 90 around the axis, which bring the convenience for the subrack maintenance and repair.
When the equipment is running normally, the front door is fixed on the frame with the captive fasteners.

Fan Subrack Definition
Except for the cabinet-top fans, there installs one fan subrack above Layer 1 shelf, Layer 3 shelf and the dustproof subrack respectively.
Functions
The fan subrack is generally used as fan subrack module. It can monitor and adjust the speed automatically. There install three sets of unit modules inside each fan subrack, with two fans in each set. All the fans support mixed insertion. It is very convenient to maintain on the site and replace with hot line. All the fans work simultaneously to form an enclosed air channel (in at the bottom and out at the top) in the whole cabinet, to cool the cabinet by force.

Service Subrack Definition
The service subrack locates on Layer 4 shelf of the cabinet.
Functions
The service subrack can perform different services by installing different backplanes. Shelves fall into the control shelf, resource shelf and switching shelf. These shelves work simultaneously to perform the RNC functions.

The service subrack is in shielded structure that the boards can be inserted from both sides of the rack, from side and from the back side. There are seventeen slots at the front and rear board respectively. The subrack room is 431.8 mm. The runs through from the panels of the front boards and other cables are from the panels of the rear boards. DIP switches are used to set the type and version information of the backplanes installed in the shelf.

Classification By function, ZXWR RNC shelves fall into the control shelf, switching shelf, resource shelf (1 G resource shelf), and interface shelf (1 G interface shelf).
By the backplane type, ZXWR RNC shelves fall into BCTC, BGSN, and BPSN.
With difference configurations, these shelves can form the RNC system with different performance.
The shelf classifications are as shown in Table 15.

Structure The backplane slot is on the back of the shelf. The front and rear boards are vertical to the backplane and they are inserted in opposite positions.

Backplane
The backplane of the control shelf is BCTC.
Switching Shelf Definition
The switching shelf is the core switching subsystem of ZXWR RNC, providing necessary message transport channel between internal/external functional units.
Function
The switching shelf is to perform the data interaction, including timing, signaling, voice service and data service.
The switching shelf provides the level-1 IP switching platform for the system, for the interconnection of multiple resource shelves with the interface shelf, and the expansion of user planes between resource shelves.
Configurations Requirements
The switching shelf is not required to configure when there are one or two resource shelves on RNC. Otherwise, the switching shelf is required to configure, for the interconnection and expansion of the resource shelf.
The switching shelf can locate at any place on the cabinet, and usually, it locates on L4 on Cabinet 2.
