Social Media Training
Social Strategy and YOU:Curation as Content Strategy in Higher Education Services
What makes higher education services different?
Service delivery IS brand I.D.
Engagement is NOT requisite
Availability and Openness is key
Mediums are more numerous
Messages value is imperative
Curation has max efficiency
What is curation? In the last 30 years mankind has produced more information than in the previous 5,000.
Print, film, magnetic, and optical storage media produced about five exabytes of new information - in 2002 alone.
Five exabytes of information is equivalent in size to the information contained in 37,000 new libraries the size of the Library of Congress book collections.
Those we serve rely on us to help them sort through this massive river of constantly flowing information.
Curation is one of the many services we provide.
What do we curate?
DePaul Specific Information
Universally Useful Information
• Event Collateral (art, docs, signs, photos, programs)
• Collaborative Efforts inside DePaul (co-sponsored events, symbiotic services, major specific info, deadlines)
• Documents and Presentations (email testimonials, summaries, PowerPoints, lists of useful resources, templates, spreadsheets)
• Blog posts from other blogs• News items from news sources• Data about employment trends• Anything that can be emailed and
is useful for those we serve• Anything that a student might have
a hard time finding on their own.
