INTRODUCTION
At outer space we can use the solar power 24 hours /day and 365 days /year.
Solar power satellites are used to transfer the generated electric power to earth stations by means of EM waves.
The receiving antenna used for this purpose is Rectenna.
The converted electric power is stored for future usage.
William C. Brown - succeeded in demonstrating a microwave-powered helicopter in 1964
A power conversion device from microwave to DC, called a RECTENNA was invented and used for the microwave-powered helicopter.
Power transmitted over a distance of 1.6 km. The DC output was 30 kW.
The DOE/ NASA Satellite Power System Concept Development and Evaluation Program, started in 1977.
The SPS was proposed by P.E. Glaser in 1968.
History of Free Space Power Transmission
Rectenna
Introduction of Schottky Diode
It is formed by adding metal and semiconductor Materials used are chromiumm, platinum and tungsten. It is a majority carrier device. It has quick turn on time, and reverse recovery time(Trr)
is very short. Power consumption is very low and low PIV value
around 50V. Low noise index. Working scope may reach 20Ghz.

Conclusions
If minimal electrical power is utilized by the receiving station then Mega watts of power can be transmit through this SPS.
Due to using solar panels as power collectors at space the cost is also vey low.
However this technology is still under development and
we hope for its prosperous future.
