About SCSU• Located in Orangeburg, South Carolina• 1890 Land-grant institution• Only State-funded Historically Black College/University (HBCU) in South Carolina. • Some interesting facts:
• BS program in nuclear engineering in South Carolina and at any HBCU. • MS Transportation and the only MS Business Administration degree with a concentration in agribusiness in
South Carolina. • Doctor of Education degree in the state with a concentration in educational administration. • SC State is ranked third in the nation in graduating minorities
with the doctor of education degree.

Bulldog Connectivity Research Network (BCR Net)
• Dedicated and scalable data center and network fabric in support of the institution’s learning, research, and outreach missions.
• Provide a secure digital workspace where researchers can compute, store, share research data on high bandwidth, and secure Internet access on a variety of Internet-ready devices.

Research Partners• Nuclear Engineering Program (NEP): • The Applied Radiation Sciences Laboratory (ARSL), Radiation Data Mining
Laboratory (RDML), and the NEP reactor simulation laboratory for radiation spectra acquisition, numerical analysis, data storage, data mining, and reactor visualizations.
• Projects are funded by NSF, DOE and South Carolina Department of Transportation. Collaborators include the Savannah River National Laboratory and North Carolina State University.
5
Physics: Robotically Controlled Telescope• SC State is part a consortium which manages the 1.3 meter telescope located at
Kitt Peak National Observatory 50 miles west of Tucson. The telescope can be run remotely in real time over the Internet, or robotically through a scheduler algorithm.
• National partners include Villanova University and Western Kentucky University and individual astronomers at other sites
• 10’s of GB or more data is acquired each night, 300 clear nights of the year • TBs of archival data is stored at one site – SC State may serve as a future backup
site
6
Physics Computational Lab• Located on the 3rd floor of the science building on the SC State campus• Linux platforms support a variety of undergraduate and faculty research projects, including TBs of space-
based and ground-based observational data of tropical cyclones (NASA CYGNSS project) and the study of peculiar and variable stars (NSF POCA project)
• A robust network is necessary for the sharing of data with collaborators at government labs and other universities
7
Solar Studies and National Archive• SC State was one of the leading institutions which observed the solar eclipse of August 2017 via the
national network of telescopes located at 68 sites from Oregon to South Carolina. The project was known as Continental-America Telescopic Eclipse (CATE)
• SC State is collaborating with a small business and other institutions to establish a national archive of solar data on the SC State campus
• Access to the solar data base will be open to researchers from around the world downloading large data set –requiring a robust SC State network with large bandwidth
