CAREGIVER VOLUNTEERS OF CENTRAL JERSEY We have missed each of you and look forward to being with you again soon. While face to face services are temporarily suspended, our staff continues to work remotely to contact all our senior clients and families to ensure their safety, reduce social isolation and food insecurity, and to provide them with resources through our community partners. We continue to respond to support requests on a daily basis. Over the next few weeks we will be rolling out our “contactless grocery shopping services,” roundtrip medical transportation and an increased level of friendly and reassuring phone calls. We have initiated “on-line training” for all volunteers who can help us achieve our mission in this new environment to keep our volunteers, our clients, and those we come into contact with safe. Our schedule of on-line training is on our website: https://caregivervolunteers.org/volunteer/ To register, please send a message to [email protected], and we will send you the meeting ID number and password. You can also call us at 732-505-2273. Please stay safe!

OBITUARY FOR DEACON EDWARD HOLOWIENKA Deacon Edward Holowienka, 80 of Manchester died Wednesday July 22, 2020 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Born in Jersey City, the son of the late Zitta and Adam Holowienka, he resided in Keasbey from 1969-2001 and then relocated to Manchester. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1968, which included one tour of Vietnam. In 2001, he re-tired from Co-Steel in Perth Amboy after a 20 year career. On June 17, 1989, he was ordained as a Dea-con. He served Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Hopelawn as a Deacon from 1989 until his move to Manchester in 2001, where he began serv-ing the parish family at St. John’s Church, and then became St. John’s business administrator for 9 years before retiring in 2017. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1352 in Hopelawn. He was the Chap-lain, Past Grand Knight and a 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus Council #10022 in Leisure Knoll and a Past District Deputy. He enjoyed Disney World and was an avid Star Wars fan. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Rita, sons, Edward J. & wife Vanessa, Fred & wife Penny, daughter, Juliann Pannullo and husband Anthony, 5 grandchildren, Roxanne Holowienka & fiancé Mario Louis, Daniel Holowien-ka, Adam Holowienka and Aaron Holowienka and
Anthony E. Pannullo; brother of Louise Gaynor and Christina Madera, and the late Eugene, Lawrence and Raymond Holowienka, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is Sunday 2-5 PM at Oliver-ie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is 11 AM at St Anthony of Padua in Port Reading with interment to follow at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery in Fords. Please note that due to COVID19 regulations, the Funeral Liturgy is by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Ed-ward’s memory to K-9’s for Warriors 114 Camp K-9 Rd, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32081.
Dear Parishioners, Deacon Ed See above for a long excerpt of Deacon Ed’s obi-tuary from Oliverie’s website. The funeral took place last Monday. Please pray for him, Rita, and their family. Half-Way Ordinary Time has 34 weeks. With this 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time, we have reached the half-way mark. After the last week of the liturgical year, we will begin Advent. It’s hard to imagine what it will be like at the end of November. One of my favorite verses addresses this dilem-ma of not knowing what to expect. Consider Psalm 119:105: Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path. God shows us the next step. He doesn’t usually show us six months down the road. My brother re-minds me of a question asked in 2015 that every-body got wrong: “Where do you see yourself in five years?” If we want answers to these kinds of questions, we first ought to go to Jesus, the Word of God, to see what light He wishes to shine upon our lives. God love you, Fr. Jim [email protected]
