Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 31, 2016
Summer is a wonderful time for most people to be able to relax, have fun,
see new sights, and realize the treasures of the world God has given to us.
It is good to be able to slow down the pace and in the quietness of our
hearts listen to God’s voice speaking gently in our soul.
As you read this article our time in Poland will be coming to an end. As I write this
article a couple of weeks before I leave, I wonder what will our pilgrimage be like. Will I
grow closer to God? Will I lead those I am responsible for into a more close relationship
with God? How will our young people interact with other young men and women in
leadership from all over the world? What will it feel like to concelebrate with Pope
Francis in the presence of possibly a million and a half people or possibly more? What
will the Holy Spirit say to me? It’s exciting isn’t it?
Sometimes preparing for a trip is as much fun as the trip itself. It’s very important
to prepare properly. Research what you need to do. For me it’s packing the right
vestments and prepare my heart and others for the special gift that God has in store for
us. I so appreciate all the prayers of our parishioners leading up to and during the time of
our visit to Poland. During this time we will remember all the prayer intentions and
deceased intentions that you have entrusted us with. In each church where I will celebrate
Mass your intentions and prayers travel with us. From the bottom of our hearts we thank
you for your love and support in making this pilgrimage viable. I certainly look forward
to writing an account of our pilgrimage for next week’s bulletin.
I know that some people were afraid to join us in Poland because of terrorism. We
hold our would-be pilgrims in our hearts and understand their fears and trepidation. The
early Church leaders lived in a time of great fear and persecution. Many of them were
killed in a brutal way. The world in which we live now certainly is tinged with terrorism
and fear. It is however, most definitely protected, guided and loved by Jesus Christ. In
the personal meeting with the Holy Father we will interact with the Vicar of Christ. I will
concelebrate Mass with the Vicar of Christ and no fear of extremists would keep me away
from this extraordinary time.
When we place our lives in the precious care of the Lord miracles happen. I look
forward to next week sharing with you the miracles from our time in Poland. On behalf
of our group of seventeen we send you greetings of love and prayer from the beautiful and
holy city of Krakow.

“Sending Forth Mass.”
Let’s celebrate Fr. Owen’s Silver Jubilee!
25th anniversary of ordination as a priest and 13 years in
service to St. Rose of Lima.
Fr. Owen was ordained by Bishop Rodimer on December
14th, 1991 in Limerick, Ireland. We celebrate his 25 years of
service with joy. Join us as we express our appreciation and
shower Fr. Owen with prayers and blessings on December
11th at the 10:30am Mass. After Mass, there will be a
luncheon in his honor at The Park Savoy in Florham Park.
Look out for the invitation in the mail for Fr. Owen’s 25th
Jubilee Celebration. Be sure to get your response card in
ASAP as space is limited.
For all those who cannot attend the December 11th luncheon,
the following weekend December 17th and 18th, there will be
refreshments after every Mass and an opportunity to extend
your congratulations to Fr. Owen.
Fr. Owen’s Jubilee Invitations
Invitations to Fr. Owen’s Jubilee Mass and luncheon are open
to everyone in the parish family of St. Rose of Lima and
beyond. The only method of mailing invitations however, was
to registered parishioners, as that is the only people we have
addresses for. Also, we provided those addresses to a
professional stationer, but mistakes still happen and even
registered parishioners had some typographical errors and/or
omissions. Please know that everyone is invited, but we will
eventually reach a maximum of how many can attend due to
the capacity of the Park Savoy.
If you did not receive an invitation, simply stop in to the
parish office or call to have one mailed to you.
If we reach capacity for the luncheon on December 11th,
remember that the following weekend of December 17/18,
everyone will have the opportunity to celebrate Fr. Owen’s
jubilee at a reception after each Mass that weekend.
God bless Father Owen and our parish family of St. Rose of
Lima in his 25th jubilee year of priesthood.

Enjoy your Summer!
To the people of St. Rose of Lima parish,
Eight months ago, four members of Troop 4054 began a
renovation of the school library as their Silver Award Girl
Scout project. Thanks to your generous donations, we were
able to collect nearly 2000 volumes and raise over $250. Your
generous support of our project has been greatly appreciated,
so we are happy to provide this update. Of course, with the
closing of the school, our efforts needed to be redirected. This
past week, we finally completed sorting and boxing not only
the donated items but also many of the contents of the library
itself. These books have gone to a variety of sites including
our own preschool, other Catholic elementary schools in the
diocese, child care centers in town, and also to a charity called
Bridge of Books in Holmdel from which the books will be
distributed to underserved children across NJ. Thank you so
much for all of your support and encouragement.
Sincerely,
Jade Ditta, Shayna Dooley, Julie Prestigiacomo, and Isabella
Vescera
The feast of the Transfiguration of Christ celebrates the
revelation of Christ’s divine glory on Mount Tabor in Galilee.
After revealing to His disciples that He would be put to death
in Jerusalem, Christ, along with Ss. Peter, James, and John
went up the mountain. There St. Matthew writes, “he was
transfigured before them. And his face did shine as the sun;
and his garments became white as snow.”
EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER NEWS SUMMER ENRICHMENT CAMPERS were
enjoying a fabulous week discussing animals during our
Animal Kingdom week! We had a perfect day when we
took a field trip to The Turtle Back Zoo. Some of the
children’s favorite animals were the penguins, the
monkeys and of course, the new exhibit with the
giraffes. Another favorite among the campers was the
train ride. They were all smiles when we took off to tour
the outer area of the zoo. Everyone had a great time!

SACRAMENTS Baptism
We celebrate the sacrament of Baptism most Sundays. Parents are welcome to have the Baptism celebrated either at a week-end Mass or at the Liturgy of Baptism at 1:15. To make arrangements for Baptism please call Father Owen or Fr. Matthew. Godparents must be confirmed and be active members of the church and attend Mass regularly.
Sacrament of Reconciliation Every Saturday at 4:45 – 5:15 (or by appointment with Fr. Owen or Fr. Matthew).
Sacrament of Marriage Please contact Fr. Owen or Fr. Mathew and set up an appointment. Any Catholic couple needs approximately a year to prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage, which includes sessions with the Priest celebrating the marriage and attendance at Pre-Cana conferences.
Sacrament of the Sick / Hospital Visits At St. Rose we are strongly committed to the spiritual care of the sick. Because of privacy laws, hospitals and nursing homes are not allowed to release the patient’s religious affiliation. Therefore, we must depend on families of our sick parishioners to inform us of their whereabouts and condition. Please notify the parish office of any need for a home or hospital visit.
RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a program for people who seek full initiation in the Catholic Church through the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, which are received at Easter Vigil. For information, please contact Fr. Owen or Fr. Matthew at the parish office.
