MISSION STATEMENT
We, the Catholic faith community of St.
Teresa of Avila parish, guided by the
Holy Spirit, commit ourselves to
proclaim and follow the Good News of
Jesus Christ. Basing our lives on faith,
hope and love, we seek to meet our
needs and the spiritual and corporal
needs of those around us. It is our
humble prayer that our lives will be
visible signs of His presence in the
world as we celebrate Christ in His
Word and Sacraments.

ST. TERESA OF AVILA CATHOLIC CHURCH AKRON, NEW YORK
Welcome back to Ordinary Time, although we have a couple of big celebrations with Trinity
Sunday this weekend and Corpus Christi after that. Pentecost weekend closed out the Easter season with a huge bang. On Friday I witnessed the marriage of David & Kara Molitor, my first wedding here at St. Teresa's. Saturday morning was the ordination of four new priests, who then had First Masses and receptions on Sunday. So many parties! It was a weekend of extreme joy. Please keep these new priests in your prayers as they begin their ministry. I recall a very challenging first six months after my ordination.
There's more priest news to announce, as a new pastor has been appointed for our neighbors in Corfu and East Pembroke. Fr. Dan Serbicki will begin pastoral duties there on June 19th. Fr. Dan and I overlapped a couple of years in the seminary. His previous assignment was in Allegheny County, so he knows the culture of rural parishes quite well. Congratulations to the community of St. Maximilian Kolbe!
This past week was the annual Priest Convocation at the seminary. All priests of the diocese spent three days with each other and our bishop. We have a special Mass to honor priests who are celebrating major anniversaries. Among those to be honored is our own Msgr. Williamson who has been ordained 55 years. Ad multos annos, Monsignor!
Those who have been following the numbers for the bishop's Upon This Rock campaign will notice that we've surpassed the 50% mark of our parish goal. This is a major milestone, and I thank all those who have participated. We will begin to wrap up our parish's part of the campaign at the end of this month, so if you plan to return the Upon This Rock mailing, please do so within the next couple of weeks.
Also at month's end is our annual Graduate Mass. Invitations have gone out to all high school grads to join us in reserved seats for the 10:15 Mass on June 25th. We know our teens are working hard preparing for final exams. I will be praying for all our students through this stressful time.
And then, full speed ahead into summer! Please take a look at the signup sheets for our summer small groups - "33 Days" and "Resisting Happiness." Also, online registration has begun for Vacation Bible School at our parish website. Here comes the sun!
May God bless us all,
~ Fr . Dave

God our Father, we thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son’s Kingdom as sisters, brothers, and religious priests. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Religious Education: Have you been asked to sponsor someone for the Sacrament of Confirmation? If so, this is a great honor and responsibility. You are serving as a model and support for your candidate. Have you contacted your Pastor to receive a letter of recommendation? This too is a requirement. Remember to send that letter to Sister Ruth by June 30th.
Mark your calendars for Vacation Bible School at St. Teresa’s Church! The theme this year is The theme this year is Maker Fun Factory. This fun-filled

"Reboot" your faith with a small group experience this summer! Enjoy fun gatherings and faith discussions with either of these two options: 1) Resisting Happiness - Dynamic Catholic presents Matthew Kelly's simple suggestions to find happiness by letting God into more moments of your day. This entry-level program will run for eight weeks and there is no cost. 2) 33 Days to Merciful Love - Fr. Michael Gaitley has made the thirty-three-day model of spiritual growth very popular. This one ends in a Consecration to Divine Mercy and follows the teachings of the "other" Teresa, Saint Therese of Lisieux. This six-week program has a cost of $15. Both programs take place on Monday nights beginning June 26th at 7 p.m. There is also a morning option available if you prefer. Any questions? Just call the rectory. Please sign-up on the church bulletin board by June 12th, so that we can order materials. We will have activities for middle-school kids (grades 6-8) during these Monday meetings, so please bring them along!
A married couple, both 60 years old, were celebrating their 35th anniversary. During their party, a fairy appeared to congratulate them and grant them each one a wish. The wife wanted to travel
around the world. The fairy waved her wand and poof -- the wife had tickets in her hand for a world cruise. Next, the fairy asked the husband what he wanted. He said, "I wish I had a wife 30 years younger than me." So the fairy picked up her wand and poof -- the husband was 90.
Attention 2017 Graduates: A special Mass will be held on Sunday, June 25th at 10:15 am in your honor. Please plan to attend!
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:
“But simple as the Sign of the Cross is, it carries a brave weight; it names the Trinity, celebrates the Creator and brings home all the power of faith to the brush of finger on skin and bone on belly. ~Brian Doyle
