The Project
• The project aims to design and develop content for 17 courses based on the Learning by Doing Methodology in the areas of CS and ECE.
• Each course is divided into modules (about 18 to 20 per course), each consisting of several tasks.
• The student addresses the tasks using video lectures, PPTs, Just in Time (JIT) lectures/notes etc.

• The “learning objectives” put together form the conceptual course syllabus
• The “implementation” involve tasks, which when completed, leads to prototypes of the basic products developable within the course
• The “resources” form a collection of various multi-modal resources including the breakthrough papers in the area

PRSG Recommendations• The PRSG committee reviewed the project on 27th June, 2014• PRSG recommended that:
– The remaining e-Content development be completed using the Butterfly Approach and/or Task-Based Learning. Second installment of funds be released so that work may proceed.
– Budget may be reworked to reflect the current expenses as the approach demands more expenditure on the part of writers’ and developers’ team. PRSG recommended that using the sanctioned budget of Rs. 119 lakhs, fewer courses, i.e. 9 be developed. Later, new funding should fund the additional 8 courses for a total of 17 courses.
– Training of engineering teachers is advisable for implementation of new content at colleges. PRSG recommended that funds for teacher training and subsequent support to teachers for student training be provided.

Conclusion• Current State
– Not enough funds to implement the content appropriately in the colleges
• Required Future state– Require an estimated Rs. 13 lakhs per course + Rs. 573 lakhs for training and support– 9 courses will be developed and successfully implemented in 3 years time– Require additional Rs. 104 lakhs to develop remaining 8 courses
• Why now– My team has been trained and has successfully developed 25% of course content– Stopping the momentum will have financial repercussions on the success of the overall
endeavor and the team morale
• The benefit for us all– Better trained students and teachers with education geared toward employability in the
marketplace– Recognition of this MHRD Standing Committee as the group that spearheaded and
implemented Learning by Doing as a way of education
