PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2015
Welcome to the 2015 Annual Kununurra Agricultural Show.
This year has been very frustrating for the show society, trying to negotiate a new
lease for the showgrounds and a licence to operate the overflow caravan park. The
lease has been finalized and is ready to sign but the caravan park licence is still being
negotiated.
However the show must go on, and the show this year should be a great event with
many tried and true events plus a few new ones. The generosity of local business in
sponsoring the show has made it possible for us to offer great prizes and trophies.
One of the reasons to hold a show is to give the local community the opportunity to
showcase their products and skills, so whatever your interests are, and whether you
are in town, in farming, or the pastoral industry you will find the show has something
for you to participate in.
The committee and I hope that you will enjoy the biggest
community event in town, the 2015 Kununurra Agricultural
Show.

Themed displays have changed, the wedding dress class has changed, and new
classes have been added to produce, fruit, homecraft, preserves & beverages and
the collection corner.
Please check the schedule for each section for details of new and changed classes,

Regulations Equestrian Events: 1. Horses in breed classes should be registered. Registration cards should be produced on
demand. Points may be allocated for ROM, Performance or High Point awards if registered. Please present cards and registration papers to stewards for point allocation if required.
2. Coloured horses are defined as any colour variances associated with Roaning, Dun, Paint, Appaloosa, Palomino or Albino. The Judge may use discretion when accepting entries for these classes.
3. Stallions and Colts are permitted in senior classes only and must be handled by a competent person over the age of 18. No stallion shall be allowed in the grounds without appropriate restraint (chain lead or bit).
4. Any horse deemed by the steward to be dangerous or out of control must be removed on demand.
5. Handlers must present in appropriate attire. No exhibitor shall be granted entry to a ring wearing thongs, sandals or singlet tops. Neat tidy and clean attire should be worn at all times in the ring. Any handler wearing incorrect attire may be asked to re-present or find a suitable handler.
6. Smartest on Parade classes are to be judged on grooming of horse and handler, suitability, fit and cleanliness of gear and overall appearance. One horse – one rider policy applies to these classes.
7. Novice Classes are open to competitors who have not previously won an open class in the same or similar category.
8. Any rider under the age of 18 is required to wear a helmet complying with current safety standards (ASA/NZ3838 or EN1384).
9. Any disputes are to be submitted in writing to the Chief Steward on the day of the competition.
10.The committee reserves the right to alter, omit or add classes as may be deemed necessary at any time due to time constraints or number of competitors.
Dressage Regulations 1. Dressage nominations must be received by last mail on 28th June to be included in the
draw. Late entries will be accepted at the judge’s discretion. Draw will be posted on Thursday 10th July on the Stable Complex notice board or faxed on request.
2. All dressage events are run under unofficial Equestrian Australia (EA) competition rules. 3. Junior Preparatory dressage is open to Horse/Rider combinations where the rider is aged
under 15 years and has not competed in an official dressage test or has not scored more than 60% at preparatory level.
4. Preparatory dressage is open to Horse/Rider combinations that have not competed in an official dressage test or have not scored more than 60% at preparatory level.
5. Preliminary dressage is open to Horse/Rider combinations that have not scored more than 60% at Novice level.
6. Novice dressage is open to Horse/Rider combinations that have not scored more than 60% at Elementary level.
7. Elementary dressage is open to Horse/Rider combinations that have not scored more than 60% at Medium level.
8. A horse may only compete in two (2) consecutive levels on the day, e.g. a horse may compete Preparatory/Preliminary, Preliminary/Novice or Novice/Elementary.

Rules All competitors must wear approved safety helmets Competitors may have a running start Competitors can do a left or right handed course. Pattern must be a clover leaf,
with the rider crossing their paths (see diagrams below) Time is taken as the horses shoulders/bikes front wheel passes through the peg. Only one go per rider – no practice runs Knock down of a barrel incurs a 5 second penalty Holding/touching a barrel incurs a 5 second penalty If the rider does not ride the correct pattern it is automatic disqualification. If the rider does not start and finish between the pegs it is automatic

Show jumping competition to be run under unofficial EA rules. 2. All riders competing in show jumping events must wear an approved safety helmet. 3. AM7 Competition rules: A competitor with a clear round rides the jump-off course, against
the clock, before leaving the arena. The competitor has 45 seconds only to go through the starting flags after the Judge sounds the bell for the jump-off. The jump-off may include two new obstacles in the course.
4. Preparatory -There are NO eliminations, help will be given, aim is to get all horses & riders around the course
5. Junior - For Riders aged under 15 years who have not won a show jumping event before (May be led).
6. Novice - Horse must have not won a show jumping event before 7. Preliminary - Horse must have not won more than twice at a similar height. 8. Open - open to all horse and rider combinations that have not competed in the Novice
Class 9. Horse/Rider combinations may compete in up to two (2) consecutive grade levels if
eligible. Horses deemed unfit will be withdrawn at the discretion of the stewards. 10. Riders may compete on more than one horse, but a horse may not have more than one
rider. 11. Classes may be cancelled if there are insufficient entries. 12. Jigsaw –Two riders on the course jump any 5 jumps from any direction (timed Event) 13. Pairs –Timed event two riders

Chocolate Almond Cake

Recipe provided by the winning cook, Kath Ryan.
185g butter
1 cup sugar
3 Tbsp cocoa
3/4 cup self-raising flour
3/4 cup slivered or chopped almonds
3 eggs
Melt butter and sugar. Remove from heat. Add cocoa melted
with a little hot water, then flour and nuts, then beaten eggs.
Pour mixture into a greased and floured cake tin. Bake at
190oC for 35-45 minutes. Let cool in tin.

Lemon Sponge Cake Margaret Fulton, Microwave Cooking
2 cups self-raising flour 1 Tbsp milk 1/4 tsp baking powder 2 tsp lemon juice 125g butter 3 Tbsp lemon curd 3/4 cup brown sugar 1&1/2 cups icing sugar, sifted 2 eggs 2 Tbsp water 2 tsp grated lemon rind Yellow food colouring
Sift the flour and baking powder into a large bowl.
Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles bread crumbs, then
stir in the sugar. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the
lemon rind, milk & lemon juice.
Spoon the mixture into an ungreased, base-lined 18cm round, 9cm
deep container. Stand on an upturned plate and cook for 2
minutes. Turn the container round and cook for a further 2 minutes.
Turn round again and cook for 1-3 minutes.
Leave the sponge to stand for 5 minutes before turning it out
upside down onto a serving plate. Cover and leave to cool
completely.
Split the cake into two layers. Spread one layer with the lemon
butter and replace the
other layer on top.
Mix the icing sugar with
the water and yellow food
colouring.
Pour over the cake.

GET OUT OF BED Begin in your swag with boots and hat off before whistle goes to start race GET DRESSED Put boots and hat on, roll up swag and do up 1 strap HAVE A WASH Run over to bucket and wash whole face with water EAT BREKKY Run over to table and eat all the food on your plate and drink all of your ‘Bloody Mary’. You must complete eating all of your breakfast, if there is too much spillage, the Judge can issue more food. Food cannot be spat out while on course. If food is spat out you must return and eat brekky again. LOAD THE UTE Carry your ’poddy calf’ carefully and put it in the back of the ute. FEED OUT Roll a round bale to the designated area near pickets, leave bale in marked area. GO FENCING Hammer 2 pickets into ground with dolly using at least 5 hits per picket. Place dolly back on the ground and head to next obstacle. CRACK A CAN OFF A 44 GALLON DRUM Get your whip and knock your can off a 44 gallon drum KNOCK OFF Race over to the table where hot ‘beer’ cans are. Drink your ‘beer’ until can is empty without too much spillage. If you spill too much beer you will be ordered to drink another. When finished place can on table to FINISH event.

Rules Open competitors must be 15 years old or over Junior competitors must be 10-15 years old Teams comprised of 3 people only
Object The object of the game is to stack up to 20 bales of hay (open) and 15 bales (junior) to the greatest height in the shortest time possible. One team member must finish seated on top of the highest bale and the stack must stand on its own for 5 seconds to qualify. Bales must be picked up and carried (not thrown) 5 meters to the stacking ar-ea. Teams then construct the highest possible stack using as many of the bales as desired. Teams may hold the stack to keep it from falling after the 5 second time limit has expired to enable measuring. Time Limits Teams will have a maximum of 5 minutes in the heats and 3 minutes in the final to construct their stack. A whistle will sound once to indicate 30 seconds to go and then twice to signal time up. At the final whistle teams must stop building and one team member must sit on the top bale of the stack. Judging If more than one team finishes with the stacks the same height, the fastest team will be the winner The two highest and fastest teams will compete in the finals. The judges decision is final.

KAS reserves the right to prohibit from sale at the discretion of the Committee, any dangerous, banned or illegal items.
Site holders and Exhibitors are to ensure that sites, displays and exhibits are kept in a clean and tidy condition at all times and that all employees or attendants are clean and tidily dressed and conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times. Failure to comply will result in closure of site, forfeit of site fee and reporting to appropriate authority.
Games of chance are STRICTLY PROHIBITED. All games must be games of skill. The site holders shall indemnify the Society against any liability in respect of any breach by site holder of any rule or regulation hereunder for the present being in force and which may impose any liability on the Society.
All stalls, exhibits etc., must be removed from the Showground not later than two days after the termination of the show. Any rubbish or refuse remaining will be removed at the cost to the site holder.
The Society reserves the right to remove any site holders from the Showground if any games on the site are declared by a member of the Police Service or DOCEP to be illegal or if there is any infringement by the site holder, and in such case the site hold-er will be liable to forfeit all monies paid or payable in connection with the site.
Any sideshows must be approved by the Committee prior to the Show and operators must present an insurance Certificate of Currency.

verify the appropriateness of entries; All entries are to be made on the proper entry form by the appropriate due date; Exhibits must be the property of the Exhibitor and except for livestock, either grown
or made by the Exhibitor; Any Exhibitor proved to have knowingly made false entries or to have willfully
infringed any of the rules, will be ineligible to receive a prize; The Committee reserves the right to refuse, cancel or accept conditionally any
entries; All entries must be in the hands of the Stewards at the time designated; All persons exhibiting shall accept the decision of the Judge appointed by the
Committee and in all protests, the decision of the Committee shall be final and without appeal;
The Committee shall not be responsible for any accident that may result in loss or non-delivery of livestock or any other exhibit of any kind, or any injury done thereby;
Judging: First, second and third prizes in each class awarded are at the discretion of the Judges. Judges are empowered and instructed not to award any prize to any exhibit which they consider is not of sufficient merit;
Aggregate Awards: A separate entry is not required for these awards. Three points will be awarded for a first, two for a second, and one for a third. In the event of a tie, two points will be for Championships. Such additional points will be awarded only to those Exhibitors who tie in the original allocation;
No exhibit should be removed from the Show before the time stipulated in the special regulations for each section without permission of the Stewards in the Section;
Should the Committee have any reason to suspect any exhibit is diseased or dangerous they reserve the right to refuse admission thereof to the Showground, and to remove the exhibit from the Grounds at the expense of the Exhibitor;
All protests shall be delivered in writing to the Secretary before 2pm on the day of the Show accompanied by a fee of $50, which will be forfeited if the protest is deemed frivolous. It shall be the duty of the person protesting to produce evidence to support his or her allegations;
All prizes are subject to alteration as determined by the Committee; Application for space for stands, machinery, implements, sideshows or stalls will
be received by the Site Coordinator. Position will be allocated during the week of the show and a charge will be made for the space granted;

Two stall holder’s wristbands for each commercial exhibit will be allocated or available at the Secretary’s office and must be retained for the duration of the Show;
All charges for site spaces must be paid in full by 4pm Saturday of the Show weekend;
Stock or other items not eligible for entry under any of the numbered classes, may by special permission, be exhibited. Certificates of Merit may be awarded but no prize will be given;
Persons contravening the Society’s Rules shall forfeit any prize which may be awarded;
The Committee may, at any time, disqualify from exhibiting, either indefinitely or for specific periods, any Exhibitor who has, in the Committee’s opinion, been guilty of any breach of the regulations or by-laws, or whose conduct during the Show has, in the Committee’s opinion, been such that he or she is unfit at the Show;
All livestock will be inspected by a Veterinary Surgeon if deemed necessary; No person other than officials shall be allowed in the Show Ring during the ring
events unless otherwise advised; The colours of the ribbons and prize cards shall be: Red/White/Blue—Champion,
Blue/White—Reserve Champion, Blue—First, Red—Second, Yellow—Third; No entertainment shall be allowed on the grounds without permission of the
Committee; The Exhibitor, or his or her representative, shall clean out horse and cattle pens in
which their stock is housed. Stall gates must be closed at all times, except when moving animals;
The Committee reserves the right to add to or amend the Schedule in any way; and
Any person committing a public nuisance in the Grounds or collecting money without permission may be asked to leave with assistance from the Police if required. No person so removed shall have the right of action or claim for damages, costs, and expenses or otherwise against the Society under the
Regulations.
Privacy Statement The information provided by all Exhibitors in the application for entry is collected & used by the Kununurra Agricultural Society Inc (KAS) to organise & conduct competitions at the 2014 Kununurra Agricultural Show. We may publish details such as your name, address & exhibit details in KAS publication or communication. Such information may also be made available to & published by the media. We will not disclose your information without your consent for any other purpose unless required or authorised by law.
