Building Surveying Case Study

School Nursery Refurbishment & New Extension,

Surrey Education,

Sunbury, UK.

Project Aims and Objectives:

To refurbish the existing nursery and build a new extension, in order to provide a modern and challenging learning environment, required by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).

Project Based Building Surveying Services:

1. Pre-construction Phase

• Defined the Clients brief

• Led and managed the project team

• Production of architects drawing from the Construction Issue stage

• Planning and Building Control submissions

• Production of Specifications for all works

• Procurement of Contractors

2. Construction Phase

• Contract Administration

• Chairing Site Meetings

• Weekly structured site monitoring meetings

• Determining site instructions & variations

• Progress claims and financial control (Inc. variations)

• Snagging and granting Practical Completion

3. Post Construction Phase

• Settling the final financial account and ensuring the H&S File was produced.

• Establishing the 12 month defects liability period

Accomplishments:

As the works were undertaken during term time, I put controls in place which included banning noisy work during teaching time, deliveries were out of hours, site boundary being regularly checked and closed off, etc.
