We have some important information for you as you get ready for the final
preparations for the King of the Bays event this Saturday. Please ensure you
read all of the below information to ensure your swim is safe and enjoyable.
Please ensure that you have completed adequate training and are in a fit and
healthy condition to take part in your chosen distance.
Expected water temperature is around 21° Celsius
Low tide will be at 12.01pm (0.9m)
WELCOME!
Your official Banana Boat New Zealand Ocean Swim cap that
must be worn on the day
Your timing chip and strap. Replacement and longer straps
are available from the Information Tent if required. This can
be worn on either ankle.
Swimsuit/Wetsuit
Goggles
Body Glide / Huub Luub (this is available for purchase from
the Information Tent)
Towel
Warm, dry clothes to change into after your swim
Your official Series drink bottle, or your own for water after

ENTRY CHANGES
To ensure results are as accurate as possible at prize giving there will be no changes to
participant data on event day. This includes wave changes and wetsuit changes.
Changes can be made up until online entries close at 5pm on Thursday 12 April. Please

SWIM PACK PICK UP
You may have selected to have your swim pack couriered (these were dispatched on
Monday 9 April on an overnight courier) or as a last resort, to collect your swim pack on
event day at the registration tent.
Event Registration for the ‘I’m Going Long’ 2.5km will be open from 8.30am at Balmain
Reserve, Cheltenham Beach. For the ‘Torpedo’ 750m and Banana Boat OceanKids 200m
swims, packs will be available to collect from our registration tent at the main event site
at Windsor Reserve, open from 11.30am.
Please note: If you have already received your swim pack via courier prior to the event,
there is no need to come and visit us at the registration tent. You are all set to go!
TOILETS
There will be both public toilets and portaloos available at the event site.
2.5KM ‘I’M GOING LONG’ SWIMMERS – BUS TRANSFER
An optional one-way bus transfer from King Edward Parade (just along from the
Devonport Library) to the 2.5km ‘I’m Going Long’ event start line at Balmain Reserve,
Cheltenham Beach is available for swimmers on the morning of the event. This gives
swimmers the option to park near the main event site/finish line area in Devonport and
then catch the bus to the start line. Buses will depart at 9am, 9.20am, 9.40am and 10am.
If you wish to travel on one of these buses, please purchase a bus ticket with your online
registration or by contacting us at [email protected] or 09 486 0240 before 5pm
Thursday 12 April.
2.5KM ‘I’M GOING LONG’ SWIMMERS - BAG TRANSFER
There will be a free gear bag transfer service for all participants. Please ensure you only
bring a small bag along, packed only with essentials. Print your SURNAME clearly onto
the white bag label included in your swim pack and attach this to your bag. Bags will
need to be placed into the labelled cages at the event start area at Balmain Reserve, by
10.30am. Your bag will be transported to the main event site at Windsor Reserve, and
will be available for collection after your swim at the Bag Pick Up area. Please note, this is
an all care, no responsibility service.
BAG STORAGE AREA – WINDSOR RESERVE
An area designated for great bags will be available for all ‘Torpedo’ 750m and ‘Banana
Boat OceanKids’ 200m swimmers to store your bags in while you take part in your event.

CAR PARKING
2.5km ‘I’m Going Long’ Event Start Line Balmain Reserve, Cheltenham Beach –
there is minimal parking available, please be mindful of surrounding residents. We
suggest using the bus transfer option (information about this on previous page).
Main Event Site at Windsor Reserve - there is some on-street parking available for free
during the weekend (a time limit may apply).
ON SITE ACTIVITIES
HUUB will be onsite on event day, pay them a visit and get all of your swimming
supplies
Banana Boat will be roaming the event site ensuring you are well covered in sunscreen
Rehydrate with Loaded and refuel with a bunch of goodies as you exit the finish chute
after your swim
Hero Coffee will get you swim ready at the 2.5km ‘I’m Going Long’ event start line at
Balmain Reserve and Coffee Guy will be onsite at the main event site on Windsor
Reserve to help with your caffeine fix.
Grab lunch from Earthspot or Mama’s Dumplings, who will have a selection of mouth-
watering food to keep you going at the main event site on Windsor Reserve
RESULTS
Results will be posted to the www.oceanswim.co.nz website by 6.00pm on event day, if
not earlier. Your certificate will be available for download from the results page.
PRIZE GIVING & AWARDS
The King of the Bays event Prize Giving will take place by the band rotunda, across the
road from the main event site at approximately 2.20pm.
The Series Prize Giving will commence at the conclusion of the King of the Bays Prize
Giving at approximately 3pm.
SPOT PRIZES
Our generous sponsors have provided some great spot prizes, the winners of these
prizes will be drawn at the event prize giving. You must be there to win!
UNWIND WITH POST EVENT REFRESHMENTS!
Join us to celebrate a great day at ‘Devon on the Wharf’, Devonport Wharf, Queens
Parade from 3.30pm. A couple of the major spot prizes will also be drawn here but you
have to be there to win, don’t miss out on your chance!
LOST PROPERTY
Any lost property handed in will be available for collection from the Information Tent.
Any property which is not collected from here will then be kept for one week at
Quantum Events, after which time it will be given to charity. Contact us at Quantum

TIMING CHIPS
You have an individual timing chip, assigned to you, included in your swim pack.
Remember to bring this with you on event day.
Fasten the timing chip securely to your ankle (with the supplied strap). Come and see
our team in the Information Tent if you need help with this.
If you choose not to participate in the event, please return the chip to the information
tent immediately at the event (or post it to Attention Ocean Swim, 2099 Pakowhai
Road, RD3 , Napier, 4183
If you lose your timing chip before, during or after your swim, you will be liable
for a replacement cost of $30.
Team members at the finish line will remove your timing chip.
If you had a Series Pass chip and velcro strap this season, these will be collected at the
end of your swim on Saturday too.
Please remember – if in doubt make sure you hear your timing chip beep and look at
the race clock as you cross the finish line.

SAFETY
While the event organisers have taken every reasonable measure to ensure your safety,
as a participant in the King of the Bays, you are responsible for your own safety and
enter this event at your own risk.
You are responsible for your own physical condition and are urged to train
appropriately for the event, be able to swim the full distance of your chosen event and
have open water swimming experience and, if required, have a medical check prior to
entry.
If you don’t have any support person coming to the finish line to cheer you on, we
encourage you to buddy up with a fellow swimmer in your wave group, organise a spot
to check in with each other at the finish area and give each other a high five for a job
well done!
EVENT RULES
You must be present (and ready to swim) at the event safety briefing
You must start the swim within the designated start area when you are instructed
to by event officials
You must stay on course as instructed in the safety briefing. If you fail to do so you
risk being asked to leave the water
Purposely obstructing other swimmers in the field is prohibited. Doing so will
result in disqualification at the discretion of the Event Director
Obey all lifeguards' instructions on the water and if asked to alter your course
please do so
Any competitor that appears incapable of completing the swim at any stage may
be withdrawn by the organisers, either before or during the swim
The Event Director's decision is final

SWIM CUT-OFF TIMES
• ‘I’m Going Long’ 2.5km – the total cut off time is 1 hour, 35 minutes after the last
wave starts
• ‘Torpedo’ 750m – the total cut off time is 35 minutes
• ‘Banana Boat OceanKids’ 200m – the total cut off time is 10 minutes
CONTINGENCY COURSES
Decisions for all swims will be made by the Race Director in conjunction with the on water
safety team
‘I’m Going Long’ 2.5km Swim
In the event of weather or surf preventing the ‘I’m Going Long’ swim going ahead safely, the
swim will be changed to a shorter course at the same location. If this is the case, all
swimmers will be advised prior by email, text message, and on the Banana Boat New Zealand
Ocean Swim Series Facebook page and website.
‘Torpedo’ 750m and ‘Banana Boat OceanKids’ 200m Swims
In the event of weather that prevents the swimmers from being able to complete the swim
courses safely, the swims may be altered from the advertised courses to provide the safest
and most enjoyable swimming conditions.
Keep an eye out for your free Banana Boat race bag sample, and

on race day.
