Foreword by Principal
As a school, we want to develop all Josephians not just academically,
but holistically, and CCA has proven to be a key programme in
helping boys discover their strengths and who they are as persons.
Being a boy’s school, the CCAs offered are intended to cater to the
interest of our boys not only in Sports and Scouting, but also in
Performing Arts, Robotics and Chess. The wide offering is intended to
provide each boy with an opportunity to try a few CCAs over time, to
deepen his skills and passion in a specific area, and strive to excel to
the best of his ability.
While CCA is not compulsory in Primary Schools, we do encourage
each boy to take part in a CCA while they are in SJI Junior. CCAs are
an excellent platform to develop the characters of our boys and our
CCA programmes will incorporate the 7 Habits to inculcate values in
each boy. Not only is it also a key platform in developing the 21st
Century Competencies, it is also the place where many boys make
friends for life.

Learning and application of moral values
Acquisition and practice of soft skills
Social integration -shared and common experiences for children from different backgrounds and ethnic groups
A safe learning environment where consequences and failure/mistakes are a learning experience

Timeframe for CCA Work-year 2015-2016
In 2015, CCAs will commence in July 2015 and run till June 2016. This
will allow for better scheduling of our CCAs, which typically feature
major competitions in the first semester, and an off-season period in
the second semester. Through this arrangement, the school seeks to
better cater to the developmental needs of the pupils in our CCA, as
well as better strategize our CCA recruitment and training efforts, to
bring about better results in our CCAs.
From 2016, CCA selection will take place in March 2016 for the
following CCA work-year (July 2016 to June 2017).

Citations by the parents and pupils
"When I recommended Scouts as a CCA to my son Nicholas at Primary 2, he had no idea what scouting is all about. I told him that Scouts is a uniform group that teaches basic scouting skills with activities tailored to teach young boys life and physical skills, leadership and responsibility, self-reliance, adventure and fun as well as citizenship. "Sounds like fun!" he said. So he signed up as a Scout. The lessons were conducted in fun, interactive ways with games either in their sixes or as a whole group. Hikes, outings and camps made him aware of the environment and allow him to practice self-reliance and leadership. Every Arrow and badge he received is a testament to the progress he made as a scout. Now, 3 years later, he has grown not just physically but intellectually, with leadership skills, self-reliance and responsibility. Awareness of his environment and country. I believe Scouting has made him more aware of his ability, strengths and given him some skill sets for his future endeavours!"
- Angelina Ng, Parent of Nicholas Chng Li Kien from 6 Stephen
Scouting to me is not just working on badges, but also having the
heart and soul to help other people. I joined scouts because of my
father forcing me to, but ever since my first year of scouting in 2012,
I had enjoyed attending every single Scout session, even though
trainings are often tiring. It is also very enjoyable to attend camps
and campfires. Scouting also teaches me many life lessons and gives
me a chance to lead others.
