A History of Virtual Reality
1965 First HMD "The Ultimate Display" by Ivan E Sutherland. He used this form of VR in attempting a practical medical application of the HMD: problems of representing hemodynamic flow in models of prosthetic heart valves.

A History of Virtual Reality
1986 "Virtual Reality" Term attributed to Jaron Lanier of VPL in a conversation regarding the work of Scott Fisher. Fisher, of NASA Ames, had been referring to the field as "Virtual Environments“ . A pioneer in the field of virtual reality Lanier and Thomas G. Zimmerman left Atari in 1985 to found VPL Research, Inc., the first company to sell VR goggles and gloves.
Jaron Lanier VPL
American writer, computer scientist, and
composer of classical music.

A History of Virtual Reality
1992 First CAVE Automatic Virtual Environment. By Tom A Defanti and Carolina Cruz-Neira. Concept: a room with graphics projected from behind the walls. Invented at the Electronic Visualization Lab, University of Illinois Chicago Circle . DeFanti's current work includes heading the TransLight/StarLight international multi-gigabit networking project and co-directing the OptIPuter optical networking and visualization project.
Tom A Defanti professor of Computer Science
at the University of I llinois at Chicago, and a research scientist at the
Cal i fornia Institute for Telecommunications
and Information Technology.

A History of Virtual Reality
2012 First “Oculus Rift" Developed by Oculus VR Attributed to John D. Carmack.
Oculus VR was founded by Palmer Luckey, Brendan Iribe, Michael Antonov and Nate Mitchell. id Software co-founder John Carmack was hired as its CTO.
The Oculus Rift has been endorsed by a number of notable game industry.
The unit features a high speed IMU and a 5.6-inch (14 cm) LCD display, visible via dual lenses that were positioned over the eyes to provide a 90 degrees horizontal and 110 degrees vertical stereoscopic 3D perspective

Customer’s work:
Driving seat ergonomics is today a critical aspect of industrial design for cars, buses, tractors to make sure the position of the driver in the cabin is optimal.
To check ergonomics for the driver’s cabin and be as close as possible to reality in the tractor’s cabin and so: • be able to check the ability of the driver to reach the different
command buttons and pedals, • check his visibility • check the dimensions of the work cabin and the access to it • the distance between the steering wheel and the seat • the different levers
TechViz :
see the tractor's seat in a room with a person (potential driver) installed on it and to test the commands as if the person was executing them in real time and scale 1:1
