TERM 2 WEEK 9 OATLEY WEST LANTERN - The school by the park 15.6.2021
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. The weather certainly made a turn for the better.
I’d like to share the School Vision developed for our School Strategic Improvement Plan 2021-2024. This is incorporated into the plan and is available on our website:
‘At Oatley West Public School, we are 'learning to live and living to learn' through quality instruction, positive partnerships with our com-munity, and a respect for the schools' eight core values- respect, fair-ness, integrity, cooperation, excellence, participation, care and re-sponsibility. Our vision is to prepare our students for a rapidly chang-ing world. Students are empowered to acquire, articulate and value knowledge and skills that will support them as life-long learners. The school will develop resilient students who embrace challenge, adapt to change and take personal responsibility to strive for excellence in all they undertake.’
SEMESTER ONE REPORTS Reports will be sent home next Thursday 24th June. These reports will reflect student learning progress up to this point in the year. You will recall we held parent/teacher interviews late Term 1, however if you would like to discuss your child’s progress with the class teacher next term, please call the office on 9580 5048. Provide your details and the office staff will give your information to the teacher who will reply to you with possible times.
EDUCATION WEEK TERM THREE – ‘Lifelong Learners’ The theme this year celebrates education as a lifelong journey from before a child enters an early childhood learning setting, progressing to primary and secondary school, and continuing their learning jour-ney into adulthood; learning a trade, entering tertiary education or the workforce. Further information about how Oatley West Public School will celebrate Education Week with our community will be sent out early next term however please mark Thursday 29th July (Week 3) as the school’s open day activities.

VALUE OF THE WEEK: CARE
Play safely Show concern for the wellbeing of others Be friendly and make others feel welcome
Consider the needs of everyone.
CANTEEN NEWS Congratulations to the Oat-ley West P&C Canteen. The canteen is meeting the NSW Healthy School Can-teen Strategy. The Menu Check Service assessed the menu application against the food and drink criteria
of the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy and met the requirements of the Strategy. By having a healthy canteen, we are supporting the health and wellbeing of our students. In acknowledge-ment, the canteen has been awarded the Great Choice Certificate and Badge. This informs the broader school community of our commitment to a healthy school canteen. Congratulations to all members of the canteen!
STUDENT ATTENDANCE As part of our School Strategic Improvement Plan, we have formed a student attendance goal. Above 90+% is our expected student attendance target. Every day at school counts towards stu-dents achieving their best and realising their po-tential both academically and socially. If a student misses as little as 8 days in each school term, by the end of primary school they’ll have missed over a year of school. If you have concerns in re-gard to your child’s absences, please do not hesi-tate to speak to the classroom teacher or the As-sistant Principal supervising the stage so that we can work together to develop some positive strat-egies which will help to improve attendance at school.
2022 ENROLMENTS We are now accepting enrolments for 2022. Ap-plications can now be made online at the enrol-ment page on our website or through the Service NSW website. Due to revised enrolment guide-lines, our school can only accept ‘in area’ enrol-ments or those that meet the criteria for an out of area application. If you already have a child/children enrolled at the school, our enrolment panel would consider your out of area application as a priority. A full copy of enrolment guidelines is available on our website. If you have any ques-tions please feel free to contact our office staff, phone 9580 5048.
