What is the Brazilian Rain Forest?• The Brazilian Rain Forest is one of the worlds

most valuable resources, it has thousands of medicinal plants and rare animals, not to mention vast amounts of timber.

• The Amazon Rain Forest gets its name from the Amazon river.

Abiotic Factors

• In the Amazon Rain Forest, it is very wet, warm and humid.

• It is called a ‘Rain’ Forest because it rains a whopping nine feet of water every year!

Plants• Liana: A wood-like climbing vine, that hangs from tree to tree.

• Bromeliads: Pineapple like fruit, home to many different insects and organisms.

• Saprophytes: A fungi that helps plants decompose.

Animals• Pygmy Monkey: A Pygmy Monkey is so small that it can fit in the palm of your

hand! It eats small fruits, tree sap and insects.

• Jaguar: A Jaguar is a endanger big cat, it eats birds, fish deer etc.

• White Piranha: This large fish likes to snack on other, smaller fish. They do not swim in schools.

How Resources From the Biome are Used Scientifically

• Scientists use rare captured animals to study, or experiment on.

• They use some plants to find cures for many diseases such as cancer.

Human Activities• The Amazon Rain Forest is full of medicinal

plants, rare animals, and timber.• Humans need these valuable resources to;

Make medicines from the plants to cure diseases, use the timber to make houses etc, or to hunt rare animals for their fur/meat.

Positive Human Impact

• When (e.g., the government) buy up the land, they buy it from the poor locals who have little or no other income. This is good for the economy.

• Also, cutting down trees will help build new house for people, make pencils for students etc.

Negative Human Impact• When (e.g., the government) decide they

need more timber, they buy up the land and destroy all the trees. Trees are important because they are home to so many organisms (animals, other plants, microbes or insects) and because they produce oxygen that all living things need, to survive.

How Can the Problems be Solved?• Instead of selling their land, locals can give

tours of the Brazilian Rain Forest. After all, who wouldn’t want to see giant trees and amazing animals?

• Or, locals can sell smaller bit of land to the people (not including government/companies) so the land can be conserved.
