The Foundation Statements and the Stage 1 outcome for designing and making place an emphasis on students: responding to investigations of needs and wants following a guided design process to create products drawing and modelling design ideas using accepted methods and practices.

Students designing in Stage 1 Science and Technology

At Stage 1, students become more methodical in their approach to designing. They are more willing to draw and model ideas before settling on a final solution. They start to appreciate how products and environments are designed to meet people’s needs. Students work co-operatively sharing resources and helping others where necessary.

Following are two samples of classroom practice.
