In the following pages you will find a compilation of
what I created for my first collection along with other
previous projects. As a general design aesthetic,
each piece should be translated as art. It should be
shown as a piece of true expression.
THE GATE BETWEEN Fall II 2015
What is the absurd? What is reality? How can one honestly say that there is only
one true reality? Questions of this nature tend to be automatically understood
to a certain extent, that is, until the question is asked out loud; not just once…
repeatedly, over and over again. According to Albert Camus, the absurd is when
the appetite for the absolute and unity meets the impossibility of reducing this
world to a rational and reasonable principle. This collection is the journey from
confusion of the standard reality that we live to the more understood reality of
our own. We control the world that we live in, if we are willing to fight for it. The
Gate Between is the door that must be opened to reach the absurd. And one
must break all boundaries to reach full potential and live a life beyond the
absurd. Inspiration for this collection grew primarily on psychological thought
and the understanding of philosophical theories of reality. Through stylized lines
that represent human anatomy and silhouettes that are not necessarily natural,
this collection fuses two realities, the one that is seen when one looks at another
and the one that is seen when one looks at oneself.
“For me fashion is an expression of art that is very close
related to me and to my body.
I see it as my expression of identity combined with desire,
moods and cultural setting. In all my work I try to make
clear that fashion is an artistic expression, showing and
wearing art, and not just a functional and devoid of
content or commercial tool. With my work I intend to
show that fashion can certainly have an added value to
the world, that it can be timeless and that its
consumption can be less important then its beginning.
Wearing clothing creates an exciting and imperative form
of self-expression. 'Form follows function' is not a slogan
with which I concur. On the contrary, I find that forms
complement and change the body and thus the emotion.
Movement, so essential to and in the body, is just as
important in my work. By bringing form, structure
and materials together in a new manner, I try to suggest
and realize optimal tension and movement.”

“Everyone has an Angel. A Guardi-
an who watches over us. We can't
know what form they'll take. One
day, old man. Next day, little girl.
But don't let appearances fool
you, they can be as fierce as any
dragon. Yet they're not here to
fight our battles, but to whisper
from our heart. Reminding that
it's us. Its everyone of us who
holds power over the world we
create. We can deny angels exist,
Convince ourselves they can't be
real. But they show up anyway, at
strange places and at strange
times. They can speak through any
character we can imagine. They'll
shout through demons if they have
to. Daring us, challenging us to
fight.” -Suckerpunch
