Design Principle
Primary Optical area
What is shown in the area is mostly, the title of the film the star which is Liam neeson and it shows
him under the text, it also shows the tagline “people are afraid of all the wrong things”. This would
attract the audience with the big star in well-known previous roles but also looking at the title makes
you wonder what the film is about.
Terminal optical area
This one shows the released date, which is most important part because how else would you know
it’s out and there is a cross to be relevant to the genre and shows death shows It is a good film.
Weak Fallow Area
Next we have Weak fallow area which is the opposite Terminal optical area this shows it similar to
the main title also shows a church not much to show as it is makes it just work with the same colour,
shows information on the film that most people don’t read.
Strong Fallow Area
Then we have the strong fallow area, which is opposite Primary optical area, which has similar
features because it would be the other bit of the poster finishing of the title, so it would attract the
audience because the title is catchy but also it is based in a graveyard which it fits in with the title.
Genres Codes and Conventions
Different things show the codes and conventions such as the colouring not much there is like black
white grey and red. This makes the genre of film maybe dark but the red can refer to blood, the
black coat reminds me of death, it’s almost if he is death deciding on whom to kill and to spare.
Anchorage
Then we have the anchorage which is basically the attraction via popular actors well in this case it
would be Liam Neeson because of his previous roles in films such as taken and non-stop. It also
includes him because he is the main character making fans want to check it out and it looks
interesting.
Modes of Address
Then finally we have the modes of address which is who they are addressing the advert to, anyone
who is looking because Liam Neeson’s character is looking straight at the camera would suggest he is
looking at us. It makes it look he is after us as if we are behind something but then it makes us want
go see the film it fits the genre well because it makes me wonder why me he is looking at so it makes
me intrigued to go watch the film and find out more.
