Newsletter No. 9 April 17th, 2013
From Mr. Vella’s desk Firstly a warm welcome back to all students, staff and families, I trust that the holidays went well and you were able to spend some quality time with your families and friends.
I would like to thank the students, parents in the yard and staff for making me feel so welcome during my first day at Hamlyn Banks which started out with a staff photo! The students should be congratulated for their behaviour during the day that involved class, individual and for some family photos. What impressed me most was the organisation and confidence exhibited by the school captains, who set about their task of col-lecting grades and ushering them to the Multipurpose room with great efficiency. I am looking forward to working more closely with them in organising assembly and attending the ANZAC Commemoration Cere-mony on Tuesday 23rd April.
There are some important and exciting events occurring in the coming week that we hope the community will be involved in.
Please spread the word about our :
Prep information tours on Wednesday 24th April at 9:30 am and 6:00 pm
Trivia Night from 7:30 on April 24th in the new building
Arts Exhibition on April 29th
Helen Keller’s message “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement, nothing can be done without hope and confidence,” captures my state of mind leading into the beginning of my partnership with the Hamlyn Banks school community. As I mentioned in my letter home earlier in the week that the focus of my work will be around discovering what makes Hamlyn Banks tick. I am optimistic about the future for the students at the school as I can see an opportunity to build on the work that has occurred in the past. I would love to hear about the things that are important to you about Hamlyn Banks and your hopes for your children at the school. To assist me in understanding this can you please fill out the attached form and return it to the front office.
Regards
Daniel Vella
Principal

Welcome Back everyone,
Before School Care
Wow! What a brilliant start to the term boys and girls. Everyone has returned from the holidays with lovely big smiles and great attitudes.
So far this week the children have been using materials and objects in the room to create novel games to play. I have seen some amazing team work in action.
In Term 2 , Before School Care will be focusing on sustainable practices and be-ing responsible for our environment. This will be achieved through fun activities such as making grass heads and recycled paper.
I had a great break and hope you did too. I look forward to hearing all about it this week.
This Term I am hoping to do a few science experiments this term so we may need a few extra materials donated. Please watch this space. Thank you in advance for your help with this.
We are really looking forward to this new term and would like to remind parents that if you would like to have your children attend OSHC please long onto www.campaustralia.com.au
Unfortunately we no longer have Karen working with us of an afternoon. We thank her for all her hard work last term, I am sure we will see her back soon doing a fill in role.
