Washington High School of Information Technology
Valencia Carthen has served at Washington High School for ten years as an English teacher and five years as volleyball, cross country, and track and field coach. In 2006 she moved into administration and served as Literacy Coach, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal. Her experiences in the classroom and in the athletic arena here at WHS-IT have helped mold her into the highly energetic and enthusiastic leader that she is. Ms. Carthen is a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater, where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Secondary English Education in 1998. She earned her Masters of Science in Educational Administra-tion in 2013 from Concordia Uni-versity. Ms. Carthen is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta So-rority Inc. When as about her new role as Principal, Ms. Carthen’s re-ply was “I am honored and excited to embark on my new role as Princi-pal of Washington High School of Information Technology. I am com-mitted to student development and learning and I enjoy collaborating with staff, district personnel, and community members as we estab-lish quality relationships with stu-dents and endeavor to provide them with exceptional educational oppor-tunities.” GO PURGOLDERS!
Mr. Marlon Boyd began his tenure at Washington High School of I.T. in the fall of 2012, with over 17 years of collegiate and interscholastic ath-letic experiences. Mr. Boyd is a grad-uate of UW-Whitewater with a B.A. Arts, Minor in Advertising, and was a four year player on the football team at U.W.W. Mr. Boyd complet-ed his graduate degree at Marquette University in Educational Policy and Leadership. He has served in a varie-ty of sports roles at Washington High School for 17 years, including foot-ball, girl’s basketball & track. Mr. Boyd is an alumnus of Washington High School, where he earned letters in five sports. The staff at Washing-ton say that Mr. Boyd is truly a pleasure to work with. Mr. Boyd says his mission is to help students succeed in the classroom and in the sports arena.

ATHLETE CODE OF CONDUCT Milwaukee Public Schools prides itself in sponsoring high quality sports training which includes establishing a high standard of athlete behavior, and ensuring the safety and well being of all athletes involved in training and competition. All athletes are expected to abide by the Athlete Code of Conduct as established by MPS. ATHLETE STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR The following athlete behavior is unacceptable while participating in MPS training or competition, including, but not limited to, practice, transportation to and from competition, and at the competition venue: • Profanity or verbal abuse • Tobacco use in restricted areas • Use of alcohol • Physical or verbal sexual overtures • Physical abuse • Use of illegal drugs or any controlled substance • Illegal or socially unacceptable behavior, which seriously disrupts or impedes the participation of athletes and others and/or reflects poorly on MPS Athletics. • Frequent unexcused absences • Poor sportsmanship • Violent or disruptive behavior • Any unwelcome physical contact • Possession of harmful weapons
