The Following biographies in whole or in part by Betty Andersen Roberts 6 Aug 2001.3
Martinus Andersen was born October 19, 1900 at Ulsted, Aalborg, Denmark the son
of Anders Peter (Andreassen) Andersen and Mathilda Larsen. His Andersen Grandparents
were Andreas Andersen Glad and Anne Marie Jensen.
Martinus was one of sixteen children born to his parents. When “Tinus” was about
18 months old in the year 1902 his parents and 9 of their 10 children began to immigrate
to the United States of America. The oldest brother, Andreas Lavris Andreassen remained
in Denmark and raised a large family of 10 children. He never was able to visit the United
States.
After the family went to America. his parents had four more children. A son, Joseph
Andersen only lived a short time and they also lost a daughter, Martine Andreassen, as an
infant while still in Denmark. The immigration to the United States and specifically Utah
came about because the family had joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
They wanted to be close to the center of the Church at that time. The children who came
to Utah with their Parents were: Anne Marie Andersen (Keaton), Soren Christian
Andersen. Andersine Marantine Andersen (Lloyd). Ingeborg Christine Andersen (Lloyd),
James Christian Andersen, Sarah Sorine Andersen (Johnston), Otto Eskel Andersen.
Johanne Annine Andersen (Bowers), Martinus Andersen, and Thorwal Andersen. The
three other children who were born in Utah were Emma Elizabeth Andersen (Ashcraft),
Rebecca Andersen (Vance), and Lars Espen Andersen. Fourteen of the children lived to
adulthood. Their parents died in Burley, Idaho, Anders Peter Andersen on March 1, 1938
and Mathilda Larsen (Andersen) on Jan 8, 1938.
Martinus's father, Anders Peter was a farmer and so in Utah he first worked for
another farmer at North Point, where his Family was provided with a place to live. They
later moved for a short time to a farm in Bluffdale. The next move in the Salt Lake Valley
was to a leased farm in Riverton. Utah where they lived until Martinus was about 14 years
old. He learned farming skills as he took responsibility for chores on the farm. In the year
1914 a water project opened in Burley, Idaho and the family homesteaded land there
where they lived and raised their family. Martinus stayed out of school one year so that he
could chop sagebrush and level farm land. He was determined to finish school and so he

went to live in town with a sister, Annie and that made it possible for him to finish High
School. He was active in sports, football and basket ball while in school. He was always
very social and liked to go to dances and picnics with his many friends.
Martinus was always active in his church and when he was 20 years old, he was
called on a Mission for the LDS Church to the Northern States Mission. which included
the States of Illinois and Michigan. Not long before he left to serve the Lord on that
Mission, he became acquainted with Elizabeth Collett, a young lady a couple of years
younger than himself He has always said that it was love at first site. They corresponded
while he was away and she was finishing school and a Teacher training program, which
allowed her to teach in a small rural school.
When Martinus returned home in the spring of 1923, he liked to tell how he had to
win Elizabeth's interest and love again. They wrote many letters, while he was away and
as they courted in Idaho. They were married on October 3, 1923 in the L.D.S. Temple at
Salt Lake City, Utah. His children have recently received, a couple of boxes of letters
written by them in those early years. They are copying the letters for their families,
because of all the special history and the impressions of Martinus and Elizabeth's
personalities that are contained in those letters.
After they were married, Martinus farmed a small place near his parent's farm. On
June 6, 1927 their first daughter, Betty June Andersen (Roberts) was born. On August 6,
1928 their second daughter, Pauline Sarah Andersen (Hobbs) was born. Soon after that,
Elizabeth became very ill and the Dr. suggested that they move to a warmer climate. They
were referred to the San Diego, California area by Lewella Manning; one of Elizabeth's
sisters and so moved their family to San Diego. After they moved to California they had
four more children. Alice Joyce Andersen (Garrett) was born August 25,1930, Victor
Ward Andersen was born July 30, 1934, Glen Martinus Andersen was born August 3,
1936 and Lorna May Andersen (Cline) was born May 7,1940. He loved his children and
they loved him very much.
Martinus first worked as a Salesman, going door to door. It didn't take him long to
find another job in a Produce Warehouse which was more in line with his experience in
handling farm produce. He later worked as a Milk Man, delivering Milk to homes in the
early morning hours. He lost that job during the depression when he left for his Father-in-
law's funeral in Hagerman, Idaho and was replaced. After some time he found work as a
Grocery Clerk and he worked in the Grocery Business for many years as a Manager for
Safeway Stores, Inc.
When he retired in about 1948. he began to build a home for his family in Vista,
California. He took a liking to the building trade and spent the rest of his working years
building homes and remodeling buildings, including several Churches. In 1960 Martinus
and his wife Elizabeth were called to serve a Building Mission in Holland, Denmark &
Norway for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent 3 years supervising
the young men who were called to help in those projects. During that time in Denmark, he
was able to visit his brother, Andreas and to meet many family members who were living
in Denmark. These were special times for Martinus as he was able to learn more about his
native land and it's customs.
When they returned home in 1963, they bought two new duplexes in Salt Lake City
and began an improvement project on those rental dwellings, In 1965 Beth had a bad fall
and not long after her injuries had healed, she was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease, she
later had a massive stroke that caused her to be bed fast. Martinus cared for her for many
years and was a very kind and loving caregiver. He was praised by many of those who
saw the special love he showed to Beth. Elizabeth died December 10, 1985 after 12 years
of being completely helpless.
Martinus was very lonely after his wife died but continued to live in an apartment,
which was at the back of his daughter Lorna Cline's home. He lived there until he broke a
leg and was not able to walk or care for himself any longer. Martinus died on September
1, 2000 just 49 days before he would have been 100 years old. He had been living in a
care center for some time and was loved by all those who cared for him in those last years
of his life, including his four daughters. Pauline and Lorna lived nearby and did his
laundry and saw to his personal care.
He was a loving husband and father, a very good man, always ready to be a friend to
those around him. He was a man of God and was always concerned about genealogy and
his extended family. He loved the little children and they loved him as well.

2. Pauline Sarah Andersen Family Biography written August 20, 2001
I am Pauline Sarah Andersen Hobbs, the 2nd child and daughter of Martinus
(Andreasen) Andersen and Elizabeth Collett Andersen; and a granddaughter of Anders
Peter (Andreasen) Andersen and Mathilda Larsen Andersen. I was born August 6, 1928 in
Burley, Idaho. Before I was 1 1/2 years old my family moved to San Diego, Calif. We
lived several places in San Diego County, where I went to school, and church, and grew
up with very loving Parents and family. There are 4 girls and 2 boys in our family, Betty
June, Pauline Sarah, Alice Joyce, Victor Ward, deceased; Glen Mautinus, and Lorna May.
When I was 17 years old, I met George Henry Hobbs who was in the Marine Corp.
He came to an MIA Party at our Branch in Carlsbad, Calif. We were married in the Mesa,
Arizona Temple on June 6, 1947. We have been blessed with 5 sons and 1 daughter.
a, George Henry Hobbs II, the oldest son of Pauline Sarah (Andersen) Hobbs
and George Henry Hobbs was born on March 31, 1948 in Oceanside, California. His
wife, Mary Augustina (Rebollo) Hobbs was born on September 8, 1947 at Palo Alto,
California. We met in 1973 while both employed at Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto. We
have three 'children, Erika Joanne (Hobbs) Murdock, married to Scott Andrew Murdock,
Diana Kathleen Hobbs, and George Henry Hobbs III, married to Alicia Marie (Gieser)
Hobbs. We have lived in San Jose; California, West Jordan, Utah; and Cameron Park,
California.
George studied electrical engineering at the University of Utah and Stanford
University and has always loved interesting projects at the cutting edge of RF/Microwave
and Communications Technology. In 1979 he moved the family to West Jordan and
joined his father, brothers, brother-in-law (Edward Pieper) and uncle (Earl Cline) in a
construction business that specialized in excavation and general engineering. Later, he
returned to technology and eventually settled in Cameron Park.
Mary is from a proud and loving family whose heritage comes from southern Spain,
near Gibraltar. Her grandparents, all born in Spain, came to Hawaii, where they married
and started families, and later moved to Mountain View, California. We have always been
very close to Mary's family who early on adopted George as a "Spaniard by marriage".
Mary after attending college and then working for eight years, stayed at home raising our
three children. When our youngest was older, she went back to school, became a medical
assistant, and worked in a back office position in Internal Medicine until she recently
retired, spending more time enjoying life with George, and being a grandmother.
In the early years of our marriage, we flew small aircraft and took several trips
together and with our two young daughters. Later, we raised Arabian horses and built
memories of foaling and raising young fillies and colts to adult horses. We have always
enjoyed nature and the outdoors. Our girls were both active in Brownies, Girl Scouts, and
in church summer camp activities. Mary worked on staff at the girl’s camp for several
years. Our son became very talented in Kempo Karate. He also went through YMCI
Indian Guides, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts becoming an Eagle at age 13. All of us were
active in our Boy Scout troop and in an excellent Boy Scouts summer camp where we all
held staff positions. Now our children are adults, two with loving spouses. Scott and Erika
became parents to Lauren Mary Murdock nine months ago. Grandpa (George) and
Grammy (Mary) are finding that life just keeps getting better. We see each of our children
and our granddaughter multiple times each week and with our extra time together we both
love being sweethearts forever.

f, Christian Lynn, December 25, 1957.
We lived in Carlsbad Calif. a few years, and then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in
1952, where we have lived and raised our family. George has been a Building Contractor
and Developed Property. We had a Family Business and all our family worked together
for many years. We also loved to fly our airplanes, and made many special trips together
to visit family, or have short vacations. In 1972 after our fourth child was married, we
moved with our 2 youngest sons, to the small town of West Jordan, Utah where we could
be closer to our work, building homes. West Jordan has grown now to a large city. George
and I were called to serve in the Jordan River Temple in June 1981, and helped with its
opening. We spent 10 special years serving there together before he became ill with
cancer. George passed away on August 28, 1993. We all miss him very much. I am so
grateful for our Temple marriage and the faith I have that we can be together again. I have
kept busy helping our children, working sometimes, and have served again in the Temple
for the past 6 1/2 years. I was called to be a Councilor in Relief Society at the Care Center
in our Stake. I feel that I can help to pay back a little of the love that was given to our
