We are well into the third quarter of 2015 and looking forward to the warm sun and long days that are heading our way! Spring is such a beautiful time of the year and Sundowner looks especially gorgeous during these months.
The SRA would love your input in the newsletter and welcomes any announcements you may have
for the residents, provided the announcements are specific to Sundowner and contribute to the
upliftment of the community. All comments must be sent to Anne by the 25th of the month.

The SRA would like to congratulate Londoloza on another crime free month in the boomed section of Sundowner.
“Sector policing is an approach to policing whereby the service area
of a police station is divided into smaller, manageable areas known as
sectors. For each sector, the SAPS appoints a police official who is
known as the sector commander.”

Hijackings There has been an increase in vehicle hijackings in Sector 1 in the last few months. People are followed to their driveways and hijacked either in the driveway or on the property. Residents are reminded to stay alert and to continue driving past their homes and to call a Londoloza vehicle if they suspect they are being followed or if there are people loitering around their driveways. Guards: At the AGM, the decision was taken to remove one guard from the Apollo and Taurus booms at night. The SRA is happy with the performance of the night guards. It’s good to see the traffic slowing at the booms at night and with only one guard it appears that the traffic is more patient and willing to wait as the guard finishes on the opposite side.

Patrolling: The two Londoloza patrol vehicles in Sundowner have covered a total of 7536 km and 8131 km over the last 30 days. The SRA would like to thank the vehicles for their excellent work and for ensuring that any strange vehicles/pedestrians are stopped and escorted out of the boomed section if need be. Guard of the Month The Guard of the Month for July was Skumbuzo Zulu for his outstanding work as an armed Guard in the boomed section. The SRA congratulates and thanks Skumbuzo for his hard work and dedication! Residents are reminded to please report good behaviour and nominate guards or officers who are deserving of the recognition.
Narcotics Raid On Wednesday the 8th of July at 15:00pm the TRT team assembled at the Londoloza Head Office for a briefing on a raid to be conducted on Olievenhout street behind Northgate. Drug dealing has become a problem in the area and is impacting on the community.
The team was divided and each group was briefed on their role. For the raid there were two narcotics dogs to assist along with their handlers. As soon as the drug dealers saw the vehicles approaching they ran, resulting in a number of chases. The good news is that Londoloza were able to recover narcotics on site. Dagga, Crystal Meth and Nyoape was recovered along with other drug related items. These contents were handed to SAPS. Some vital information was gathered that will be used in future operations. We appeal to the community to contact us with any information that they may have. Firearm Training Reactions officers are regularly put through specialised firearm training. Below are some pictures from the most recent training session.

Special Alert – from a resident:
“As the winter chill continues, icy conditions are placing
even more pressure on our already constrained energy
grid. Load shedding is a reality which is may even
increase during the coming months. The Insurances have
seen increased number of fire claims in the last few
months, most of which can be attributed directly to load
shedding. Some of these claims have also sadly resulted
in the loss of life.
It is vitally important to be aware of the dangers
associated with these power outages
The Insurance company provided us with a few examples
from some of their recent claims and will hopefully give
you some insight into what to avoid and what to take
care of:
• A hairdryer left on the bed when load shedding
was implemented, set the bed alight when the
power was turned back on.
• Candles fell over setting curtains and bedding
alight. Never leave candles unattended or
burning when going to sleep!
• An iron left on during load shedding, set the
ironing board alight and caused subsequent fire
damage to the cottage.
• Heaters placed too close to flammable material
such as blankets and curtains, are also a major
fire risk.
Make sure that you unplug ALL appliances that were
being used before the power outage to prevent them
from turning on unattended when the power is
restored. In doing this you will also protect these items
from electricity spikes or surges.
Please alert your families to these important aspects and
let’s face our ESKOM challenges safely.”
WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR IN A SUSPECT:
The SRA will be starting a What’s App group for reporting of
emergencies and vital security updates/incidents. We will run
a 30 day trial period. Based on feedback from other residents
associations and Londoloza we have been advised that specific
/ strict rules should be implemented so that communication
on this group remains high priority and doesn’t get watered
done by general chatter / banter. For this reason residents
who don’t stick to the rules will have to be removed. (see
Rules below)
Any contributing SRA resident who wants to join the group,
please send Anne the following information:

room to report an incident or emergency.
