The veins in a dragonfly’s wing define a complex and beautiful tessellation.

Activities and questions:
The veins in a dragonfly’s wing de-fine polygonal regions. A portion of the wing of the dragonfly in the photograph was carefully drawn to create the tessellation above. Each tile in this tessellation has between 4 and 7 sides. Count the number of each type of polygon and create a histogram using the axes at right to compare the pre-dominance of the different tiles.
