Dear Parish Family, 40 Days for Life began this past Wednesday (Sept 24th). It will end on November 2nd. During those 40 days all are asked to offer up prayers and sacrifices for the end of abortion. People will also be praying at abortion clinics throughout our
nation. During the previous seven years, 40 Days for Life efforts (in 3,039 campaigns in 539 cities in 24 countries), 8,973 lives have been saved, 101 abortions workers have quit their jobs and 57 abortuaries have closed – PRAISE GOD! The closest 40 Days for Life site to us is: American Family Planning, 6115 Village Oaks Drive, Pensacola, Florida. If you are interested in
visiting that clinic to peacefully pray for life as part of this program, please let me know. We will have the Blessing of the Pets on Sunday, October 5th, at 5:00 PM. It is the day after the feast day of St. Francis
of Assisi, the usual day for this blessing. All are invited to bring their pets (and keep them under control). Your friends and
neighbors are also invited with their pets. Snacks will be provided for the dogs, cats and humans who attend! As mentioned last week, the Rally on the Site of the proposed Catholic High School in Baldwin County will take place this Sunday at 2:00 PM. If you are available, it would be great to see you there! Thanks for the prayers for my mom. In her last check up, the cancer count was down (and the chemo was not very hard on her)! She will have her next chemo treatment on October 3rd.
This was found out too late for last week’s bulletin: John Vargo passed away on Wednesday, September 17th. His funeral Mass (at our parish) and burial (in Prince of Peace cemetery) were the following Friday. Please remember the repose of his soul and the consolation of his family in your prayers.
In Christ, our Lord, Father James Dean

Youth Group News Greetings from the Youth Director!
This past Saturday we had our first middle school game night from 6-8PM in the gym at St. Benedict's, and it was a huge success! Thank you to all the parents and volunteers who helped make it happen, we had a really fun time. As you heard from Fr. Dean this past weekend, the high school youth group time on Wednesdays has changed to 6:30-8PM. This seems to work better for families who play sports, and it makes both Wednesday and Sunday night youth group the same length of time. I encourage all members of the high school youth group to invite friends, and I look forward to seeing new faces at youth group. Middle school youth group will be at the normal time this Sunday, 5:30-7PM. As of last week, due to the kind donation of the Schaff family, we have a foosball table! Come ready to play on Sunday, and ready to talk about the Gospel. Thank you all so much for volunteering your time, and thank you for lifting my wife Afton up in prayer over these past few weeks. I really cannot tell you how grateful I am to have so much help and support. It is a blessing to be a part of the St. Bartholomew parish family. Y'all have a blessed week! In Christ, Stephen
Saint Benedict Catholic School Update September 23rd, 2014
Saint Benedict Catholic School students have been very busy with pursuing the school mission of “Ora et Labora”. They are “praying” - “Ora” and “working” - “Labora” harder to improve their studies and be closer to God. Whether in classroom lessons, special or extra-curricular activities, the mission is a constant reminder of our goals here at SBCS. In Religion classes, students are covering a variety of topics. Second graders have researched patron saints in preparation for the First Eucharist. When finished, their Saint projects will include a written report, a banner representative of the saint, and the students dressing as their chosen saint. Third graders read the book God is Here by Diana Long and Judy Bachman which teaches that God loves them no matter what. Fourth graders are learning about what it takes to help the Kingdom of God to grow, while fifth graders are studying the Seven Sacraments. The two stories of creation found in Genesis have been a delightful topic for sixth graders. Studying the mystery of the Blessed Trinity has enlightened seventh graders concerning the relationship of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and eighth graders are learning to apply the lesson that true happiness is found in following God’s laws.
