TRANSITION YEAR
Transition Year is a one year school based programme
between Junior and Senior Cycle.
It is provided by 80% of schools.
66% of all students in Ireland complete the TY
Programme.

The maximum number of available places will be
dependent upon staffing, facilities and resources and
will be determined annually by the Board of
Management.
For acceptance on to the Transition Year Programme,
the school must be of the opinion that a student is
capable of benefiting from participation in Transition
Year

student(s) from benefiting from participation

General Rules for Subject
Choice
All subjects are the same for calculation of points for university/College entry except
Higher Maths which has 25 bonus points (if you
achieve at least a grade H6)
Choose the subjects that you enjoy and in which you have achieved good grades
If your career plans require that you study specific subjects in the Leaving Cert e.g. chemistry for Pharmacy, priority must be given to these subjects etc.
