Transport Modelling
Our team of transport professionals has extensive experience in modelling complex multi-modal urban transportation scenarios. We utilise state-of-the-art transportation software packages to replicate existing conditions as well as evaluate proposed schemes and mitigation measures to help our clients make better informed decisions.
MWH specialises in strategic consulting, technical engineering, environmental and construction services for clients in multiple industries, focusing on water, transport, energy and environmental services.
Our transport modelling team has experience in developing, applying, and auditing strategic, mesoscopic, microscopic and micro-analytical models to evaluate a wide range of transportation challenges. Our team specialises in utilising state-of-the-art software packages and innovative tools such as 3D animations and interactive PDF dashboards. Our deliverables are customised based on our clients’ needs to help them communicate with partners and stakeholders.
We understand that the ultimate goal of any modelling exercise is to develop practical solutions for our clients and hence our modellers work closely with designers, planners, reviewing agencies, and stakeholders to develop cost-effective, innovative and context-sensitive solutions.

Caloundra South Master Plan - Town Centre Micro-Simulation
Stockland, 2012 - Current
On the back of previous Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering work undertaken by the team, our modellers are currently developing a Micro-Simulation model using VISUM / VISSIM packages for the Caloundra South Town Centre. The model is an integral component of an application package and addresses key considerations such as intersection performance, access arrangements, car parking and signal coordination through vehicle actuated programming.
Pacific Motorway – Logan Road Interchange, Business Case ‘Lite’
Department of Transport and Main Roads, 2015
Pacific Motorway Southbound off ramp is one of the busiest intersections in the Brisbane Metro road network. The key objective of this study was to review the previous planning, preliminary design, interim solutions and ramp metering projects to identify the long term solution for the Southbound off ramp and Logan Road intersection. Our team used EMME, SATURN, VISSIM & SIDRA software to provide the required analysis.
The key outcome of this project was the identification of an affordable upgrade solution.

Sandgate Road Feasibility Planning for Preliminary Evaluation of Options
Department of Transport and Main Roads, 2010 - 2012
The long-term vision for Sandgate Road was to satisfy the North Brisbane Area Strategy mode priorities as well as achieve service requirements outlined in the Strategic Assessment of Service Requirement, and provide inputs to the preliminary evaluation.
The team used EMME to develop a series of modelling network scenarios and provide demand matrices for a SATURN model which was used to inform link option development. Intersections were assessed using SIDRA.
Brisbane Airport Transport Advisory Services
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC), 2010 - 2015
Since 2010 our team has been providing transport advice to BAC on a range of small to large scale projects. We have continually been involved in the enhancement of the Brisbane Airport Transport Model (BATM)which is one of the primary planning tools to inform and prioritise landside transport infrastructure including parking, road layout, intersection performance and the interface with the surrounding metropolitan road network. Our most recent engagement was to reforecast the BATM using EMME. The 2014 base model was updated with revised land use, network upgrades, trip generation rates and patronage figures. Model results were compared against previous model forecasts undertaken in 2012 to inform BAC on the sensitivity and timing of their planned infrastructure upgrades.
Gold Coast Airport Traffic and Transport Planning
Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), 2015
Our team undertook a high level study of the Gold Coast Airport transport operations to meet the relevant statutory requirements. Using a combination of spreadsheet modelling and SIDRA analysis the team reviewed the current performance of the road network, car parking and kerbside allocations to cater for future growth. Through this exercise our team was able to identify priority infrastructure solutions that were needed to cater for future growth.
Queens Wharf Development, Traffic Impact Assessment
TTM Pty Ltd, 2014
Queens Wharf Brisbane is a prime CBD precinct which will be redeveloped with an integrated casino resort which could include six star hotels, retail, restaurant and entertainment and convention facilities. Our Transport Modelling Team developed a SATURN model for the Queens Wharf Development project. Our team led the base model calibration, network coding and update future year models and matrices using SATURN.
