TrendsSpotting Annual Prediction Report reviews upcoming trends and their implications.
Looking at 2015 – we aim at figuring out what will be new in consumer adoption for 2016.
Covering trends in different consumer domains , we’ve learned that consumer needs can be
quickly gathered to observed behaviors. People are looking for ways to display these behaviors.
Technologies offer them such solutions.
We are interested in finding out how such future developments may unfold next year.
What’s THE NEW NEXT?
1st stage evolution of social robots: basic information (personal preferences, social data,
general internet information) + basic functionalities (photo taking, alerts, reminders) +
friendly imaged object with minimal moving abilities
HIGHLIGHTS
Consumers will interact with internet based moving objects
Consumers will be looking for supervised professional service to analyze health data
After 100 years of people driving cars, cars will be driving people.
Platforms offering companies sharing models for expensive products
Live broadcast media hype
New social norms will be adopted for groups to be effective and functional
While Industrial and service robots were quite common in the last few years, companion
robots are certainly the next big hit in consumer products. Integrate even basic
information (personal preferences, social data, general internet information), add some
functionalities (photo taking, alerts, reminders) and display it on a friendly imaged object
with minimal moving abilities – to get a useful social robot that can effectively interact
with our lives. Looking at how people interact with the most basic BI motion less robots
(Amazon’s Echo) teaches a lot about future interactions with robots. Follow MIT’s Jibo,
Softbank’s Pepper, Keecker, and Buddy.
SOCIAL ROBOTS
Self-driving cars will free drivers from heavily rooted responsibilities.
Certainly, driving time can be work time and fun time. The process will be about taking
the wheel away. At first, people will still be kept behind the wheel, ready for emergency
alerts. They will be less and less focused on driving. With proven safety (eventually
‘hands-off’ will be safer) - people will be totally free to use all the space in the car for their
convenience. Once cars will be fully auto driven, and apps will offer shared rides - the
concept of owning a car will diminish among the mass.
AFTER 100 YEARS OF PEOPLE DRIVING CARS, CARS WILL BE DRIVING PEOPLE
Measured by health monitoring apps and mobile health accessories, people will
eventually want their data to be continuously analyzed and supervised by professionals.
This unique service will be high priced (insurance risks).
HEALTH
Sharing big - Airbnb for the Enterprise
The sharing economy is so far very popular and beneficial on individual basis (sharing
your car, renting your house, dinner hosting, money lending, music sharing, and so on).
Some companies have already implemented the shared workplace in hot locations
(WeWork, Blender ).
This year companies will realize they can cut budgets while sharing - and not only at the
cloud.
Expect: We will see platforms rising up to offer sharing models for expensive products
such as 3D printers, manufacturing machines, medical devices, cars, planes and even
shared labs for experiments in space.

What used to be private - now goes really public - and live!
Meerkat, Periscope and Facebook are allowing users the ability to share live video with
followers from just about anywhere. Live broadcast feels different than linked videos. It
opens a whole world of live engagement not only with celebs but also with special
broadcast themes (Koreans love to watch people eat dinner, others will like you to show
them your fridge, while teens are now broadcasting themselves sleeping..)
Expect - People using live broadcasting as platforms for public classes (yoga, dance, art,
cooking, etc.) and specialized domains such as travel and experience sharing.
SOCIAL TRENDS: FOLLOW ME LIVE!
For social groups to survive – they must adopt more effective norms of behavior (no free
spirit chats in groups created with a purpose).
Once gathered with agreed norms of behavior, they can serve for great functions
EVOLUTION OF SOCIAL NORMS: SOCIAL GROUPS TO BE MORE FUNCTIONAL
“ Few months ago, I created SOS ONLY whatsapp local group, as alternative to the neighborhood social group. I added new comers only after they agreed to use the group for urgent situations only. It works! We had events of burglars where neighbors came to help much faster than the police”.(T.W.)
"Shup" icons to be used
as a polite reminder.
