Two Fighting Cats
One day two cats found a
loaf of bread.
Both the cats wanted the
bread so they began fighting.
They clawed at each
other and fought for
long.
Along came a
monkey.
“Why are you
fighting?”
he asked.
The cats snarled, “We are fighting because we both want to eat the bread.”
The monkey asked,
“Why don’t you share it?”
The cats said,
“We don’t want the
other to get more, so we cannot
share it.”
“All right,” said the monkey,
“I’ll help you to cut
it in half.”
The monkey tore
the loaf into two.
“One bit looks
bigger, let me
make them the same
size,” he said,
and ate a little of one
of the pieces of bread.
Then the other piece looked bigger, so he ate a little of it.
The cats were so
busy fighting each other, they did not
see the monkey
eating the bread.
In the mean time, the monkey
ate the whole loaf.
The cats did not get any
bread, because they were
busy fighting.
When the cats saw the monkey running away, they knew that they should have worked together and
shared.
