Welcome to the United States Power Squadrons’ 103rd Annual Meeting.

A great deal of planning and preparation by your National Meetings Committee has gone into making this an event well worth attending. The agenda is packed with useful meetings and seminars, our EXPO and plenty of opportunities to socialize with new and long-time friends. The Rosen Centre’s convenient location—with all that Orlando has to offer near

by—and its wonderful amenities and gracious hospitality promise you a comfort-able and enjoyable stay.

EXPO 2017 is an integral part of our meeting. It will be held on Friday in the Junior Ballroom from 0900 to 1700. You will enjoy the exhibit booths representing all of our national committees. The purpose of the booths is to give members, squadrons and districts an opportunity to ask questions and interact with their committee’s staffs and leaders. They are looking forward to seeing you, as you are from that all-important pool of active members who attend our national meetings. You will also want to vote in the Youth Poster Contest and view all of this year’s entries in our annual Teaching Aid Contest.

While you’re at the EXPO, you will also appreciate meeting many of our important United States Power Squadrons’ sponsors who will have a booth at the EXPO. Please stop by and say hello.

Welcome to Orlando! — Stf/C Mark Gathings, SN-CN, National Meetings Committee

National Teaching Aid Competition—Last Call for District Entries

The 2017 National Teaching Aid Competition showcases teaching aids that squadrons have found effective in helping students to learn concepts from USPS courses, seminars and on-the-water training. Entries are selected by Districts at their fall teaching aid competitions and will be displayed in the EXPO area on Friday, 24 February.

Thank you to all Districts that have already registered the “best of show” entry from their district competitions. If your District did not conduct a teaching aid competition, contact your DEO, who may select an entry to submit.

We will be accepting teaching aid registrations until 10 February 2017. Entries should be documented per the guidance on the Instructor Development website and the registration form emailed to Stf/C Carl Filios ([email protected]) by 10 February. Each District is responsible for getting its entry to Orlando, setting it up and removing it after the competition.

Entries will be judged by members of the Educational Leadership, based on judging criteria on the website. There will also be a “fan poll,” where all exhibit visitors are encouraged to vote. Please stop in and look at the aids. You might find something that could be effective for your squadron. Certificates will be presented at the meeting on Saturday to submitting Districts for the entries judged to be the three best, and all entries will be displayed on the USPS website for future reference. For additional information, contact Carl Filios ([email protected]).

Greetings from your

National Meetings Committee Chair,

R/C Bob Holub, SN

Greetings,

As we go to press, we all feel good about preparations for a fantastic 103rd Annual Meeting experience in Orlando. From hotel and overflow hotel accommodations to official meetings, EXPO, seminars, meals and optional activities, we’re ready for you.

The Rosen has done another wonderful job supporting our preparations, and I look forward to seeing you in February. Friends, meetings and fun await you!

I wish to thank you and the hundreds of members who have helped me and the National Meeting Committee these past three years as I step down as chairman. The 99 merit marks awarded by the chief in 2016 to this special TEAM show it is not a one-person committee. A lot of hands make this a great TEAM; without all of them, it could not have been done. I thank you all!

I hoped you enjoyed the new and old locations we have gone to, the activities and dinner cruises we set up, the new ticket systems to make things work smoother and better and the newsletters to keep you informed in a timely manner.

A special thank you goes to Cheryl Schreiner with Helms-Briscoe. She has helped us find different hotels at affordable prices around the country for National and District meetings, additionally providing the goody bags and always supporting the TEAM!

The National Meeting Committee wishes you safe travels and a productive and enjoyable stay in and around Orlando.

- Bob
