Nothing Less Than Academic SuccessSeptember 26th at 5:00PM
Multicultural Student Affairs is hosting “Nothing Less Than Academic Success” in Mahoney Master’s Apartment. This interactive program will focus on how to be successful during your academic career at UM. Representatives from the Academic Resource Center (ARC) and the Academic and Career Advisors in Residence (ACARs) will be present. Light refreshments will be served. Hispanic Heritage Month 2013
Mark your calendars for a month of exciting events celebrating Hispanic culture!
National Hispanic Heritage Week started in 1968 and in 1988 was expanded to 30 days, September 15th - October 15th. The dates of Hispanic Heritage Month were selected to include the Independence Day celebrations of seven Latin American countries, as well as to incorporate Día de la Raza.
On September 24th at 4:00PM on the UC Patio the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee is hosting Opening Ceremonies. This event will feature performances from professional ballroomdancers,UMHispanicGreekLetterOrganizations,MiamiBallroomDancersandSalsaCraze.Themonthpromises to highlight music, art, history and the richness of the diverse Hispanic community.

Film: The Human ExperienceOctober 9th at 7:00PM
Join Catholic Campus Ministry, Hurricanes Help the Hometown, Butler Center for Service and Leadership, Students Together Ending Poverty and Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity for The Human Experience. Tickets are $5.00 for students and $10.00 for non-students and are limited. Your ticket will be used to buy meals for those who are less fortunate. Table Tennis Singles Tournament Deadline: September 24th
Get ready to play some pong! (No, not THAT kind of pong—this is the wellness version!) Match your skills against other students in the Singles Table Tennis Tournament taking place on September 25th at 6:00PM. The deadline to register is September 24th before 5:00PM. This special event is FREE!
Officials Training (Volleyball)September 23rd - September 25th
Want to earn some extra cash but don’t haveanyexperienceandneedflexiblehours?Thenbecomeanofficialfortheintramural Volleyball League! Training will be held in the Herbert Wellness Center Classrooms September 23-25 at 7:00PM. (Note: you must attend the training session on September 23th or September 24th and the training session on September 25th).
Volleyball Leagues Deadline: September 24th
Can you dig it? Then sign up for the intramural volleyball leagues! The deadline to register is September 24th. Captains or a team representative must attend the captains meeting on September 26th at 5:30PM. A $40 refundable deposit is due at the time of registration. Don’t have a team? No problem! Just sign up as a free agent on the roster.
Take Out Makeover Made Lighter Cooking Class
Class: September 30th
Love to order from your local Chinese or Mexican take out? Learn how to make those meals at home! The menu includes chicken fried rice, shrimp pad thai, and blackened baja tacos. The cost of the class, which includes cooking instruction, food tasting, and recipes is $20 for UM students and Wellness Center members; $25 for non-members. The class is Monday from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.
Yoga Passes Pro-Rated Class: September 30th
If you missed the opportunity to purchase a yoga pass at the beginning of the semester, you can still take advantage of this great fitnessprogramattheHerbertWellnessCenter. Yoga passes for the fall semester are now pro-rated to only $45 for student members and $72 for non-student members. A semester pass gives the member unlimited access to all the classes on the schedule.
Studio Cycling Passes Pro-Rated Class: September 30th
If you missed the opportunity to purchase a Studio Cycling pass at the beginning of the semester, you can still take advantage ofthisgreatfitnessprogramattheHerbertWellness Center. Studio Cycling passes for the fall semester are now pro-rated to only $22 for student members and $37 for non-student members. A semester pass gives the member unlimited access to all the classes on the schedule.

Delicious Whole Grains Cooking Class Class: October 1st
Want to incorporate more whole grains into you meal? Join Chef Mercedes as she teaches you some delicious ways to do just that! The menu includes baked pearl faro risotto; quinoa salad withapples,walnuts,figs,andGoudacheese; and barley with roasted walnut pesto. The cost of the class, which includes cooking instruction, food tasting, and recipes is $20 for UM students and Wellness Center members; $25 for non-members. The class is Tuesday, October 1st, from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.
First Aid Class: October 2nd
Learn to properly tend to a wound by attending our First Aid course! The class is Wednesday, October 2nd, from 5:30PM to 7:30PM. The cost is $35 for student members, $40 for non-student members and $45 for non-members.
