You can apply for a photocopy of a book chapter or journal article herehttp://www.port.ac.uk/library/help/distance/articleschapters/If it is available electronically we will normally refer you to where you may obtain it online. If it is required by your unit reading list or as research for your dissertation, we will supply either a photocopy or a copyright cleared scan depending on availability. According to demand, this will be e-mailed to you personally or posted within the relevant unit’s reading list. This service is available to both UK and overseas students but is limited by copyright restrictions (i.e. only one article from any one issue of a journal and no more than one chapter or 5% of any book (whichever is greater).

One of the most common copyright questions we get asked is:
Q. How much may I photocopy from books and journals? A. For private study or research you may copy, under “fair dealing”:
• 5% or one chapter, whichever is the greater, of a book • 10% of a small book or report of 200 or fewer pages • one article from any one issue of a journal
Read the Copyright and Licenses section of our web pages to familiarise yourself with some other key issues.
You will also find notices near most self service scanners and photocopiers you see in the libraries you use.

The Library Enquiries Service (Tel.(+44 (0)23 9284 3228) deals with all enquiries, including those related to borrowing, queries about your library account, fines, and
subject-related questions.

The copyright limits for printing from our e-resources are exactly the same as those for copying from a printed source: For private study or research you may print, under “fair dealing”:
• 5% or one chapter, whichever is the greater, of a book• 10% of a small book or report of 200 or fewer pages• One article from any one issue of a journal
Our licences for the use of e-resources are for students to access for private study or research. You are contravening these licences if you redistribute material you have downloaded. When sharing useful sources with your colleagues give references. DO NOT post pdfs or print outs.
Read Copyright and Licenses section of our web pages to familiarise yourself with some other key issues. You should also find notices near any publicly available self service scanners or photocopiers you may use.
