Mount Kilimanjaro:
Mount Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding Mountain known to man. It is a mountain where you can hike for more than 90 kilometers, gain 4 000 meters in altitude, traverse rain forest, moorland, alpine desert, snow fields and ice cliffs, all virtually on the equator! A truly unforgettable and fascinating adventure.
Kilimanjaro has intrigued modern man for the past century. There’s no denying that the human spirit thrives on exploring and conquering the unknown. Although it was spoken of in the second century, Mount Kilimanjaro was only “discovered” by the western world in 1848, when the German missionary Johannes Rebmann came within sight of the mountain, explored the area and traversed the lower slopes. He submitted his findings to the Royal Geographical Society, but his description of a snowcapped mountain in eastern equatorial Africa was doubted by these “experts”. During the following years there where a number of unsuccessful attempts by various explorers to conquer the summit and it was only on the 6 October … Read More
Zanzibar Island
Island of Zanzibar
Most prominent of the Spice Islands, Zanzibar has a potent mix of history, legends and unique cultures. Visually stunning with exceptional natural beaches and the haunting architecture of Zanzibar town, the island has lured travelers to its shores for centuries. Its past was dominated by merchants, rulers, explorers, scholars – today tourism is playing a key role. Zanzibar provides the perfect compliment to an East African safari. Zanzibar is famous for being a major producer of cloves, and infamous as being a slave entry-port, the old stone town of Zanzibar has a fascinating labyrinth of narrow winding streets lined with whitewashed, coral-rag houses with overhanging balconies and magnificently carved brass studded doors, shops, bazaars, mosques, courtyards, squares etc.

MARANGU
ROUTE
• COMFORTABLE SLEEPING HUTS (BED & MATTRESS).
• MINERAL WATER, SODA, BEER AND CHOCOLATES
• RADIO CONTACT WITH THE PARK HEADQUARTERS.
• PHOTOGRAPHIC SCENERY
REVIEW:Also known as the ‘Coca Cola Route’. The main and by far the most popular tourist route and some claim the easiest route to ‘Uhuru’ Peak (the summit). With a high success rate! With the 5 day climb option, makes it the least expensive route to climb.
ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS (AT EVERY CAMP / HUT):
MACHAME
ROUTE
• TENTED ACCOMODATION ONLY (SLEEPING BAG & HIKING MATRESS REQUIRED).
• PHOTOGRAPHIC SCENERY
• LONGER & STEEPER TREKING
ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS:
MACHAME ROUTE REVIEW:
This is probably the most scenic and most beautiful route to the summit. The scenic traverse of this route offers some stunning views! The 6-day route is however physically more challenging than the Marangu route nevertheless, it allows the climber to see the whole southern face of Kibo. ‘No huts’ – means less comfortable tented accommodation!
RONGAI
ROUTE
• TENTED ACCOMODATION ONLY (SLEEPING BAG & HIKING MATRESS REQUIRED).
• PHOTOGRAPHIC SCENERY
• TREKING
REVIEW:
This is the only route that ascends from the northern slopes of the mountain. It is very similar in nature to the Marangu route, but it involves camping. The addition of a sixth day offers a unique opportunity to visit Mawenzi tarn and the northern amphitheatre of Mawenzi.
ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS:
RONGAI ROUTE
LEMOSHO
ROUTE
• TENTED ACCOMODATION ONLY (SLEEPING BAG & HIKING MATRESS REQUIRED).
• PHOTOGRAPHIC SCENERY
• LONGER TREKING
• BIG GAME ANIMAL VIEWING POTENTIAL
REVIEW:It is a remote, unspoiled and very beautiful route to the Roof of Africa. The forest around the Lemosho Glades is rich in big game animals such as elephant and buffalo, which may sometimes require a game ranger to accompany climbers on the first day. This route is however a long route which requires 7-days for a comfortable completion, which also makes it more expensive.
ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS:
UMBWE
ROUTE
• TENTED ACCOMODATION ONLY (SLEEPING BAG & HIKING MATRESS REQUIRED).
• PHOTOGRAPHIC SCENERY
• SHORTER, BUT HARDER TREKING
• CAVE CAMP EXPIRIENCE
REVIEW:
This route is one of the shorter but also one of the more difficult routes to reach Uhuru peak however, quite spectacular and takes a total of 6days to climb. Umbwe is known for its caves. The first night you actually sleep at the Umbwe Cave Camp with two more caves that can be visited en route the following day. Also sometimes used as a descending route.
ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS:
SHIRA
ROUTE
• TENTED ACCOMODATION ONLY (SLEEPING BAG & HIKING MATRESS REQUIRED).
• PHOTOGRAPHIC SCENERY
• SHORTER, BUT HARDER TREKING
• LARGE GAME SIGHTING
REVIEW:
Rarely used due to its isolated position, between 2 and 3 hours drive from Moshi. Starting from West Kilimanjaro, there is the added bonus of encountering large game during the first day’s walk necessitating the need for an armed ranger on this day. We recommend this route for its isolation as the chances of seeing anyone else over the first four days are rare and the longer time it gives you for acclimatization.
ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS:
MOUNT
MERU
• DOMITORY STYLE HUTS (SLEEPING BAG & HIKING MATRESS REQUIRED).
• PHOTOGRAPHIC SCENERY
• GET ACCLIMATIZED FOR KILIMANJARO.
REVIEW:Mount Meru is one of Africa's highest and most beautiful volcanoes. The route to the summit passes through parkland, mountain forest, a giant heather zone and moorland. Finally, the summit is reached by a narrow, barren ridge which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone lying several thousand feet below in the crater and Kilimanjaro in the background. Over 400 species of birds, rhino, elephant, buffalo, baboon, warthog, black and white Colobus monkey and duiker are all found in this delightful 'gem amongst parks'. The visit to the Ngurdoto crater and Momella lakes, with their superb scenery, flamingoes and other wildlife, is an unforgettable experience. This is a tough walking trip with some steep terrain and dormitory style huts.
