Please remember that there are dumpsters located behind the clubhouse specifically for recycling:
cardboard (broken down and flattened), paper, plastics (#1 & #2), cans. Please do not fillup the garbage dumpsters with these items. Do not leave glass beer bottles by the dumpsters (seebelow). Your use of the recycle bins benefits the association.
You may recycle your old household batteries in the basket provided on the front counter in the clubhouse.
GLASS RECYCLING IS NOW AVAILABLE
Any food or beverage container made of glass can be recycled. When my car trunk is full, I'll make a run, soyou can bring well-rinsed glass containers to me (Carolyn Taylor) at Lot 127, or you can call/text me at 480-376-3716 and I'll pick it up from you. As I have no idea how much glass will be recycled in our park, I'm justguessing that I can handle this alone. Should I be underestimating the amount, I may need help. If you havea truck or SUV and would be willing to assist if necessary, please let me know. The Association won't receiveany rebate for this but, as with hazardous waste and battery recycling, we can contribute to reducing pollution.

FROM THE MANAGER
Hello Everyone.....
I hope that everyone has enjoyed their summer. Wehave been busy her at Fountain East. The pool is
2
complete. I am currently shopping for 12 new chaiselounge chairs for around the pool and will have orderedthem or have the delivery by the end of August or earlySeptember. New chairs are already in place.
The eye-sore cactus and century plants have beenremoved from the pool area. The landscaping aroundthe clubhouse is in; the palm trees have been trimmed;the streets have been swept; the grass is looking muchbetter. We are currently working on fixing thecrumbling stonework around the maintenance hatch bythe fountain.
The majority of residents seem to be happy with thegate closure. I had hoped to get rid of the gate codeentirely by now, but after thinking it through, I havedecided that it will remain until all our winter residentshave returned and have had time to familiarizethemselves with the new system. I will soon startworking on the pedestrian gate latch and plan to installa non-electric push-button coded lock rather than akeyed deadbolt. However, this will only be more secureif residents do not give out the code. Remember, guests are to be accompanied by a resident when outan about in the park, so there should be no reason otgive the code to ANYONE.
I would like to thank all the residents who came out forthe pool party/bbq on August 27th. I sincerely hopeeveryone enjoyed themselves. I would also like to givea special thank you to all of the residents who helped(and offered to help) in the planning, preparing andexecution of the party. It could not have happenedwithout you.
Finally, I would ask of all residents who smoke to stopthrowing their cigarette butts on the ground. Both Cleoand I pick up dozens of them on a daily basis. It isunacceptable and will not be tolerated any longer. Wehave supplied 7 ashtrays and 10 trash cans. Startusing them or the clubhouse grounds will be NOSMOKING. This means all grounds inside the curbsincluding the grass, dog walk, bocce ball courts, shuffleboard courts and around the clubhouse. Thearea around the mail rooms seems to be the worst.
Thank you.
Bill Walker, Fountain East Manager

We do low-impact water-supported exercises. This is an excellent way to help your joints without

your body in any way. Some days we use a noodle and some days not.
Start your day right, have some fun, get cool.
Come join us in the pool for water exercises-Monday through Friday.

Celebrating Lemon Meringue Pie Day on August 15. It was anything from
brown bag lunches to takeout salads and subs as residents met in the
clubhouse for lunch. Lots of chatter and good fun....and lemon meringue pie
to finish the meal. Great idea Carolyn Taylor!!

manning the BBQ.....in the
sweltering 107 heat!
100 hamburgers and 60 brats later, 90+ Fountain East Residents enjoyed a luncheon celebrating the grand
reopening of the pool. There were a lot of faces we seldom see at regular park functions so it was good
to meet and visit with them and to let them know about upcoming events.

Everyone got into the spirit of the day when they had to “sing for their supper.” To determine the order
in which tables would go to the buffet, someone from a table had to come up with a song then the whole
table stood and sang that song. The quicker a table volunteered, the sooner they got to eat. We heard such
songs as “Jingle Bells”, “Jesus Loves Me”, and “Your Are My Sunshine”.
A big thank you to Carolyn Taylor and Patty Maxon who made potato salad, Margret Atwood who sliced up
watermelons, Carole Burrows and Aleta Nybakke who helped plate and serve the meal. Lanny Barringer gave
the Grace. Aleta washed dishes and pans. Jan Wilhite swept and wiped up after the event was over. A
hard-working crew!!!

The October issue of the Bubbles will be the final online-only edition. Beginning with the November issue, wewill return to our printed format in addition to the online edition.
I hope you all have enjoyed the extra pages available during this time and have enjoyed seeing how activeyour friends and neighbors are during those long, sweltering Arizona days...and nights.
However, with the return of the printed edition, it will be necessary to curtail the number of pages plus it isvitally important that anyone who has something that needs to go into the Bubbles has it to the editor well inadvance and no later than the monthly deadline of the 10th of the month prior to publication. This date is therefor a reason. It allows time to format the edition and get it to the printer in a timely manner so you will haveyour newsletter by the first of each month.
As your editor, I appreciate your cooperation so we can make our newsletter as enjoyable and informative aspossible.
Margret Atwood
John Chapman (September 26, 1774 – March 18, 1845), often called
Johnny Appleseed, was an American pioneer nurseryman who
introduced apple trees to large parts of Ontario, Pennsylvania, Ohio,
Indiana, and Illinois, as well as the northern counties of present-day
West Virginia. Today more than 2,500 varieties of apples are grown
in the United States. Apples contain no fat, sodium or cholesterol and
are a good source of fiber. Apple trees take four to five years to
produce their first fruit.
We have grown up hearing such sayings as “an apple a day keeps the doctor
away,” and “an apple for the teacher,” and “American as apple pie,” and “apple of
my eye,” and “don’t upset the apple cart” to name a few.
During September, we will celebrate the apple on Apple Dumpling Day. Bring
your lunch and enjoy an apple dumpling for dessert. Sign up on the sheets
provided by September 9.

This is AGAIN a serious plea for people to step up and help with some of the activities in the park during “the
season.” Without your help, these activities cannot take place. Now is the time to think about what you can do.
The magic words are Yes, I can! Yes, I will!
Chairmen and helpers are needed for the following events:
December–Christmas Dinner
January–Pancake Breakfast
March–Pasta Dinner
Additionally, there are other areas that need or will soon need new volunteers: the park directory, posters andtickets, association leadership, and calendering, to name a few. PLEASE consider getting involved in our park!Fountain East is full of great people, friendly, fun, caring people, who love to have a good time, a good card game,a good meal. Let's see what we can do to continue and strengthen our sense of community!
If you are willing to help, please contact Carolyn Taylor ([email protected]) as soon as possible.
Don’t wait until you return this fall, step forward NOW!
THANK YOU!!!!
